Amazon has ordered Last One Laughing UK with Jimmy Carr hosting

It’s time for a laugh once more. Amazon is extending the Last One Laughing franchise to another country. It’s all about Last One Laughing UK.

Deadline reminds us that this isn’t surprising news. Amazon had already said it was looking to extend the comedy franchise into the new territory. It just needed to find the right host and the right comedians. Well, the former has been found.

Jimmy Carr to host Last One Laughing UK

Best known as a standup comedian in his own right and the host of 8 Out of 10 Cats, Jimmy Carr will take on hosting duties for the new series on Prime Video.

Carr commented on the hosting duties as something he was looking forward to. He usually looks forward to having a “good laugh” when he’s in a room with 10 other comedians, but notes that isn’t going to happen this time. That’s because the aim of the game is not to laugh.

"I’m thrilled to be making Last One Laughing UK with Prime Video. It’s sure to deliver and if it doesn’t, it will leave the fun with your neighbours. Usually when I make a TV show with 10 brilliant comics, I’m expecting everyone to have a bloody good laugh, but not in this series. The last one laughing wins. It’s a great format and it’s been a huge hit around the world. I can’t wait to see who cracks up first."

The idea of the game is to make everyone in the room laugh. The last one who laughs wins. Players do get a chance to laugh, though. When they initially laugh, they are given a yellow card, which is a warning and a strike against their name. On the second laugh, they are red carded, and they are out of the game.

It’s a format that has become popular around the world. It all started with Japan’s Docuumental, and we’ve seen Last One Laughing spread across different countries.

When will Last One Laughing UK come to Prime Video?

How long will we need to wait for this? The good news is not too long. The new comedy series has been set for the 2025 slate.

It’s not all that clear where in the development process the series is just yet. However, it is worth noting that Carr is currently on tour, which is going to hinder filming at this point.
