Next: Yardie

50. Yardie (2018)
Written by
Directed by Idris Elba
Starring Aml Ameen, Shantol Jackson, Naomi Ackie, Calvin Demba, Fraser James
Yardie is Idris Elba’s directorial debut in feature films, which deserves a mention in its own right. However, it’s more than that fact that lands this movie on the list of 50 best movies on Amazon Prime Video.
Based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Victor Headley, Yardie, is a tale of family — both blood and perceived — honor, duty, and revenge. When D witnesses the murder of his brother, it stays with him forever. After a young life of crime, there’s hope that he can get his life back on the straight and narrow.
However, he’s put to the test when his brother’s murderer shows up years later. Will he remain faithful to the honest life or will he act out of revenge?
Despite the lower ratings for the movie (due to some of the plotlines), this is a movie worth seeing. It puts life into perspective, telling the story through the eyes of a Jamaican immigrant in London. The positives surround the acting, cinematography, and acting.
You can stream Yardie now on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: The Goldfinch

49. The Goldfinch (2019)
Screenplay by Peter Straughan
Based on the novel by Donna Tartt
Directed by John Crowley
Starring Ansel Elgort, Fin Wolfhard, Sarah Paulson, Aneurin Barnard, Oakes Fegley, Ashleigh Cummings, Luke Wilson, Nicole Kidman
Despite the low critic reviews, The Goldfinch is a beautiful movie that most definitely belongs on this list. Based on the novel of the same name, it tells the story of a 13-year-old boy who has to continue living after his mom is killed in a bombing at an art gallery. The only thing he has left is a painting.
The painting is the most important part of the movie. It helps to push Theo forward and helps him make various decisions.
The movie is one about love and loss. It’s about finding friends afterward and learning to love and trust again. There are deep complexities within the movie that you’ll need to watch it at least twice to fully understand. It’s going to be one of those you notice something different with each viewing.
If you’ve read the novel, this is most definitely a movie to watch. If you haven’t read the novel yet, I’d recommend holding off until you’ve seen the movie. The book goes into far more detail, which just couldn’t fit into the movie.
Next: The American President
48. King of Thieves (2018)
Written By: Joe Penhall
Directed By: James Marsh
Starring: Michael Caine, Charlie Cox, Jim Broadbent, Ray Winstone, Michael Gambon
Sometimes you just want a movie that is going to make you laugh, and that’s exactly what you get with King of Thieves. Don’t go into it expecting another Italian Job. This is an over-the-top comedy that never takes itself seriously, but it does offer a lot of heart and chuckles.
Based on the real-life Hatton Gardens heist, Caine plays Brian Reader, who knows exactly how to break into jewelry stores and come away with everything. However, getting into the jewelry store and stealing the items isn’t the problem. It’s going to be getting rid of the stuff.
It’s not surprising that the drama happens after the heist, and that’s not because the cops are onto them. There’s the problem of no honor among thieves.
This isn’t an award-winning movie, but you don’t always need that. You can put it on and just sit back one night. There’s no need to think or take it too seriously or even look out for the plotholes.
Caine and Cox are the perfect leading men in this movie, although the supporting cast certainly offers their fair weight in the production.
King of Thieves is now on Amazon Prime Video.
47. The Domestics
Release Year: 2018
Written and Directed by Mike P. Nelson
Starring Tyler Hoechlin, Kate Bosworth, Lance Reddick, Sonoya Mizuno, Dana Gourrier, Thomas Francis Murray, David Dastmalchian
Supergirl’s Tyler Hoechilin teams up with Kate Bosworth in this American post-apocalyptic movie, as Mark and Nina West. It takes place months after a chemical weapon attack on America destroys the majority of the country. You’re either part of a themed gang or a non-hostile survivor, known as the “Domestics.” The Wests are “Domestics,” determined to find one of the only safe havens in the country.
It means traveling across country to Milwaukee. Along the way, they’ll face the gangs and the lawless states, while also finding basic ways to survive.
This is one of those B movies that you need to check out. While it’s a very similar story to so many other post-apocalyptic tales out there, Mike P. Nelson offers a stark view of the world. If you loved How It Ends for the realities of life after an apocalypse, then you’re going to enjoy this.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, audiences are mixed on The Domestics, with the movie holding a 49% approval rating. However, critics are in agreement that this is one to check out and that’s why it makes it to the list of movies to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: Suspiria

46. Suspiria (2018)
Directed by Luca Guadagnino
Starring Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Grace Moretz, Mia Goth, Jessica Harper
There have been many reboots of horror movies over the years. Suspiria got its reboot last year, with Amazon Studios producing it. It’s natural that since it’s a Prime movie it needs to end up on the list of 50 best movies on Prime. After all, it’s not going anywhere!
However, that’s not the only reason it’s on the list. Suspiria helped to introduce a new generation to the original movie as well as the world to the remake. It keeps the same chilling aspects of the dance company and the forgotten underground network, bringing out witchcraft and evil doings. However, it added its own flair and dramatics.
Johnson got the chance to step out of her role of Anastasia in the Fifty Shades trilogy, while Chloë Grace Moretz got the chance to show off her skills in more adult production than The Fifth Wave. Tilda Swinton naturally stole the show, though. When doesn’t she?
Suspiria holds a 66% Tomatometer reading and a 68% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also has “Generally Favorable Reviews” on Metacritic.
You can now watch Suspiria on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: Seberg

45. Seberg (2020)
Directed By: Benedict Andrews
Written By: Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Anthony Mackie, Jack O’Connell, Margaret Qualley, Zazie Beetz, Vince Vaughn
There are certain movies you just have to watch, and Seberg is one of them. Despite the negative reviews from the critics for the superficial story, this is an excellent movie to see just how great an actress Kristen Stewart is. Get all thoughts of Twilight out of your mind.
This political thriller is based on a true story, and one that will make you think twice about the FBI (if you don’t already question things already). Based on the list of Jean Seberg, it focuses on how she became the target for the FBI due to her connections to Black Panther member Hakim Jamal.
It’s soon clear that Seberg is a threat, so the FBI taps her phone and follows her. Naturally, Seberg starts to realize that her conversations aren’t private but nobody will give her the truth; nobody will believe her. It starts a downward spiral that would eventually take over her thoughts and her life. It doesn’t help that the FBI has other ways to smear Seberg’s name in hope of making her lose her influence.
This is a must-watch movie. Sure, it’s not perfect but that doesn’t stop it from being great. And it’s not leaving Amazon Prime Video as it’s an Amazon Original.
Next: Cabin in the Woods
44. Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Directed by: Drew Goddard
Written by: Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard
Starring: Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchingson, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Amy Acker
Every now and then, there’s a horror movie with a twist. That’s exactly what Cabin in the Woods offered. At first, it looked like just another horror movie, with a bunch of twentysomethings heading to a deserted cabin only to find themselves at the hands of a serial killer.
However, Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard had other plans for us. They brought us a movie packed with clichés purely to poke holes in them. The two devised a horror movie that would have us laughing and guessing which clichés would be used next, as a way to tell a new story.
That new story came at the very end. The pieces of the puzzle were put together. We understood what had to happen, but would the final girl make the sacrifices that she needed to? Would she play along with the games?
With some excellent casting and brilliant writing, there’s no doubt that this is a horror movie that you want to check out. Even critics rated this one highly, which isn’t common for horror movies.
Next: I Can Only Imagine
43. I Can Only Imagine (1999)
Writers: Jon Erwin & Brent McCorkle
Directed by the Erwin Brothers
Starring J. Michael Finley, Madeline Carroll, Trace Adkins, Craig Lembke, Priscilla Shirer, Cloris Leachman
I Can Only Imagine is one of those inspirational stories based on real life. J. Michael Finley is Bart Millard, the lead singer of the Christian band, MercyMe. When he was 10-years-old, his mother left him with his abusive father, Arthur. He only found out after he returned from a Christian camp, and he’s understandably angry that it was all his abusive father’s fault.
This is a movie of acceptance, growth, understanding, forgiveness, and faith. It’s unfairly received negative reviews, partially due to the writing and storytelling. However, it’s one of the most inspirational messages that you’ll ever see and, based on a true story, it’s one that will make you question your own actions and ability to forgive someone for the past.
Bart remains devout in his faith, seeing that God has helped to change his father. Yet, he doesn’t just accept that his father is different. It takes time and he needs to write the song to be able to move forward.
It’s the United States’ fourth-highest grossing music biopics ever, behind some major releases over the years, including the most recent Bohemian Rhapsody. It was also 2018’s highest-grossing independent films. Despite only being expected to gross between $2m and $4m during opening weekend, it brought in $6.2m on day one and ended up grossing $17.1m. That right there is a reason for it to make the 50 best movies on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: Gleason

42. Gleason (2016)
Director: Clay Tweel
Starring: Steve Gleason, Mike Gleason, Scott Fujita, Mike McKenzie, Michel, Varisco-Gleason
Steve Gleason is a former NFL player for the New Orleans Saints but he’s fighting a much bigger battle than anything he faced in his football career. Gleason was diagnosed with ALS at 34 but like he did during his playing career, never backed away from a battle and has committed the rest of his life toward ALS research and raising money for patients fighting the deadly disease.
One of the most inspirational people on the planet, Steve Gleason has s reached the summits of mountains and rallied people through his Team Gleason to do things they may have thought were impossible. Seeing interviews with his wife, family, former teammate Scott Fujita, among others was really touching and an emotional rollercoaster.
There was nothing more emotional than Gleason banking sound recordings of his voice for his newborn son before he lost the ability to speak. Watch Gleason now and do what you can do to help Team Gleason.
Next: The Crazies
41. The Crazies (1973)
Directed and written by: George A. Romero
Starring: Lane Carroll, Will MacMillan, Harold Wayne Jones, Lloyd Hollar, Lynn Lowry
What could possibly go wrong when a military plane crashes into a small town’s water supply? Well, how about infecting it? If you loved the likes of Cabin Fever for the realistic element of poisoned water spplies, then you’re going to enjoy The Crazies.
After being infected, the townspeople start to go crazy. From insanity comes death. So, the military is called in to clean up its own problem and that leads to more issues. The townspeople view the military as invaders and start to infect those who have come to help them. Is there even any hope for anyone?
For those who like a movie without a happy ending, you’ll certainly want to check out. It gives a real look at just how insane people can go when their water supply is tainted and everyone around them is getting infected. And then you have to wonder whether it’s really just the water supply that’s causing the delusions coming out of the individuals.
Some on Rotten Tomtaoes admit that it’s not the best film out there, but it’s Romero. There are certainly exciting and tell-tale elements to this one.
Next: Chemical Hearts

40. Chemical Hearts (2011)
Directed by Richard Tanne
Screenplay by Richard Tanne
Based on the book Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland
Starring Austin Abrams, Lili Reinhart, Kara Young, Coral Pena, C.J. Hoff, Sarah Jones, Adhir Kalyan, Bruce Altman, Catherine Curtin
Sometimes you just want a sweet romantic movie that has a bit of drama. Chemical Hearts is going to offer that. It’s all about a teenager who fancies himself as a romantic. The problem is that he’s never been in love.
He has this certain view of a girl who will be the one for him. Love doesn’t always work that way. What happens when he realizes that the girl of his dreams is the new girl in school?
That girl has a lot of secrets and trauma. She’s still trying to find herself, but the boy has a certain view of how he’d like her to be. Will she give into his requests or will he learn that his views aren’t what happens in real life?
The movie has certainly received some mixed reviews. However, it’s a good adaptation of the source material and offers some realism in the world of teenage love. There is a little bit of work that could have been done in some of the dialogue, though.
Next: Jonas Brothers: Chasing Happiness

39. Jonas Brothers: Chasing Happiness (2019)
Directed By: John Taylor
Starring: Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Sophie Turner, Priyanka Chopra, Danielle Jonas, Denis Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Sr., Frankie Jonas, Miley Cyrus
Documentaries offer a chance to see someone for who they really are. The problem is that many can be doctored to see the side of the story the individuals want to portray — the side that the director wants to show. That’s not the case with Jonas Brothers: Chasing Happiness.
All three brothers are willing to tell the truth — and the whole truth. They want to share their highs and lows. This is a chance to see where they started from and the journey they took to become the Disney stars they once were.
And it’s not just about them. It’s about their families. Their parents, their spouses, and their friends are all involved in this documentary, including the likes of Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner. This is more than just about the brothers, but about their whole lives.
It was this documentary that led to the band getting back together. They’re honest about why they broke up and the feelings they had after the three split — it turns out it was Nick and not Joe that wanted to end the band contrary to popular belief at the time.
But more than all that, it’s a journey of happiness. What they thought would make them happy in the past isn’t what makes them happy now. Even if you didn’t know who the Jonas Brothers were before this, you’ll want to give the documentary a chance.
Jonas Brothers: Chasing Happiness is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
38. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987)
Written By: John Hughes
Directed By: John Hughes
Starring: Steve Martin, John Candy, Michael McKean, Kevin Bacon, Laila Robins
What would you do if your plane was diverted due to the weather? You need to make it home but there are no planes into the area. So, you take other forms of public transport or hire a car, right? I’d probably hire a car if I could but Steve Martin’s Neal Page opts for the public transport. He needs to make it to his wife and kids for Thanksgiving.
On the way, he ends up bunking with Del Griffith. Bunking with strangers in this situation is common. The problem is Del is a talkative guy and Neal finds him extremely annoying.
Yes, it’s every trope thrown at you. I guess we can forgive that considering Planes, Trains, and Automobiles was made in 1987. However, while it has every single trope thrown at you, there’s an inspiration message within.
Two strangers manage to get to their final destination. They’re able to work together to find the best route forward, but do they make it in time for Thanksgiving?
You can watch Planes, Trains, and Automobiles free with your Prime membership right now.
Next: The Lighthouse

37. The Lighthouse
Directed by Robert Eggers
Written by Robert Eggers, Max Eggers
Starring Robert Pattinson, Willem Dafoe
There are certain horror movies that will remain with you psychologically. The Lighthouse is one of those movies. Just like The Witch, Robert Eggers was able to capture everything about human psychological and make the movie feel real.
It all starts with two men heading to an island for four weeks. They were there to run a lighthouse and they will be the only two they see for those entire four weeks. Already that sounds like a nightmare, but what happens when one of them isn’t who he initially says he is?
There’s a lot of drinking and a lot of hallucinations that happen throughout the movie. You’re left wondering what’s real and what’s not, as you see these two men completely spiral from the isolation.
Filmed in black and white, you also get this sense that the movie is from the past; that it’s a classic that you’ve only just heard about. In fact, it was filmed in 2019, but the black and white filming certainly helps to create the setting for the movie.
This is certainly one of those movies that you need to watch at least once. You’ll likely find watching it more than once is better.
Next: The 'Burbs
36. The ‘Burbs (1989)
Written By: Dana Olsen
Directed By: Joe Dante
Starring: Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Rick Ducommun, Bruce Dern, Corey Fledman, Wendy Schaal
Neighbors come and go all the time, right? Well, what do you do when those new neighbors move in? Tom Hanks’ Ray Peterson gets mighty suspicious.
You see, Ray lives in a normal surburban town. When he’s home from work on vacation, he watches the Klopeks move in. They’re a suspicious family and definitely don’t fit in with the current residents on the block. That must mean there’s something dark about him.
It’s certainly odd when neighbors start disappearing. Of course, the Klopeks must be murderers or vampires or something. Ray and his friends decide to figure out the secret. Of course, he needs ot get his wife and son away first to protect them.
This is just one of those dark comedies that absolutely never gets old. It’s Hanks before all his bigger movies and is often one of his most underrated performances ever. If you haven’t check it out yet, be sure to do so now that The ‘Burbs is on Amazon Prime Video free with your Prime membership.
Next: Inside Llewyn Davis

35. Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
Written and Directed By: Joel Coen and Ethan Coen
Starring: Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Justin Timberlake, Adam Driver, F. Murray Abraham, Garrett Hedlund, Stark Sands, Jeanine Serralles, Ethan Phillips, Alex Karpovsky, Max Casella, Sylvia Kauders
Set in the early 1960s, Llewyn Davis (Isaac) is a musician trying to make it in the business despite everything seemingly becoming stacked against him by the day. His friend’s wife is possibly pregnant by Llewyn, his latest album isn’t selling, and nothing seems to be going right for him.
Down on his luck, Llewyn hits the road to try and make something positive happen for him in his music. However, it only seems to be one trial or tribulation after another. Will Llewyn ever get out of this rut or do his dreams of making it as a musician have him mired in this perpetual cycle of sadness and disappointment? That’s what Inside Llewyn Davis explores.
If you know anything about the Coen Brothers, you know how well they can tell any story, but they’re at their best when they offer a dark comedic take on a unique story. That’s what they do in this film and the results are simply great.
Next: Dora and the Lost City of Gold

34. Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)
Screenplay by Nicholas Stoller and Matthew Robinson
Story by Tom Wheeler and Nicholas Stoller
Directed by James Bobin
Starring Isabela Moner, Eugenio Derbez, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Danny Trejo
There are times when movies don’t initially feel like they need to be made. That was initially the case for the live-action movie based on the preschool series Dora the Explorer. What could this movie offer for families?
In the end, it became one that all families with younger children need to watch. Yes, it is over-the-top action. There is definitely a highly predictable storyline there. But that’s not what matters. It’s a fun movie for the entire family to watch.
Kids will love it because it’s Dora the Explorer. Adults will love it for some of the humor that’s thrown in, especially Dora’s face when she says “can you say…” Who exactly is she speaking to?
There are many lessons to learn along the way. Dora needs her friends. And her friends need Dora. There aren’t all the love interests that so many other movies include. Sure, there’s a bit of a teen romance going, but this is about friendship and acceptance.
Just the smile on children’s faces make Dora and the Lost City of Gold a must-watch.
Next: Shaun The Sheep

33. A Simple Favor (2015)
Written by Jessica Sharzer; Based on the book by Darcey Bell
Directed by Paul Feig
Starring Anna Kendrick, Blake Lively, Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Linda Cardellini, jean Smart, Rupert Friend

It’s perfect for fans of Ringer, Keeping Faith, and anything involving both Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. There are plenty of twists along the way, with clues to help you figure out how it all ends.
Based on the novel of the same name by Darcey Bell, it’s a tale of one woman who goes in search for her friend after said friend suddenly disappears. However, she learns that there are things that definitely don’t add up. There are secrets her friend has kept from everyone, including her husband. Can she figure it all out before the wrong person goes down for murder?
Critics have scored this movie Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences are mostly in agreement. Check it out right away on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: 48 Hrs.

32. 48 Hrs. (1982)
Directed By: Walter Hill
Written By: Roger Spottiswoode, Walter Hill, Larry Gross, and Steve E. de Souza
Starring: Nick Nolte, Eddie Murphy, James Remar, David Patrick Kelly, Sonny Landham, Brion James, Annette O’Toole, Frank McRae, Kerry Sherman, Jonathan Banks, James Keane, Jack Thibeau, Greta Blackburn, Margot Rose, Denise Crosby, Olivia Brown
One of the most tried and true beginnings to any movie, story, or anything of the sort is to put two people or characters together that you would never imagine doing so with, put them in an extreme situation, and see what happens. That’s exactly what happens in one of the first ever films to explore the “buddy cop” sub-genre, 48 Hrs.
Walter Hill’s film stars Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte as Reggie Hammond and Jack Cates, respectively. The two completely different police inspectors are ultimately put to work together to try and solve a string of cop killings that have been going on in San Francisco. The only catch is that the unlikely duo and heroes only have 48 hours to make it happen.
48 Hrs. is great if you look at it as an action film or if you look it as a comedy. Though some of the humor may be dated in its crassness and insensitivity, it’s still a fantastic movie that most anyone could enjoy.
Next: The Karate Kid

31. The Karate Kid (1984)
Director: John G. Avildsen
Starring: Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue, William Zabka, Ron Thomas, Rob Garrison, Chad McQueen, Tony O’Dell, Martin Kove, Randee Heller, Julie Fields
Not to be mistaken for the remake starring Jaden Smith that wasn’t nearly as good, the original 1984 version of The Karate Kid is one of the most beloved young-adult movies in the history of cinema. It features the classic tale of the outsider coming-of-age and becoming accepted in an unfamiliar, uncomfortable environment that makes it hard not to love.
Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) moves to California from New Jersey with his mother and is almost immediately involved in a conflict with a karate-trained bully named Johnny Lawrence (Zabka), a student at the devious Cobra Kai dojo. After Daniel’s mysterious neighbor, Mr. Miyagi (Morita), fends off the group of Cobra Kai students from beating up Daniel, Daniel asks him to train him in karate and, not without resistance, the two begin training together through Mr. Miyagi’s unconventional methods.
There’s nothing terribly inventive about the story-arc used in The Karate Kid, but the film is so good that it almost doesn’t matter. If it follows a tested formula of coming-of-age dramas, it does so to near-perfection and, if this movie wasn’t already part of your childhood, it should be part of your now.
Next: Mystic River

30. Mystic River (2003)
Written By: Brian Helgeland (Based on Mystic River by Dennis Lehane)
Directed By: Clint Eastwood
Starring: Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, Laura Linney, Tom Guiry, Spencer Treat Clark, Andrew Mackin, Emmy Rossum, Jenny O’Hara, Kevin Chapman, Adam Nelson, Robert Wahlberg
Mystery dramas have a tendency to get a bit too convoluted or require too much of a leap of faith from viewers to really be considered a truly great film. However, that’s not the case with the 2003 Clint Eastwood directed film Mystic River. Starring many of Hollywood’s elite actors, the film is an absolute master class in so many ways.
Jimmy (Penn), Dave (Robbins), and Sean (Bacon) were all friends growing up in Boston and experienced trauma early on when Dave was abducted and sexually abused. Flashing forward to the group as adults, their friendship has eroded as Jimmy is an ex-con, Dave works a 9-to-5, and Sean is a detective. Things get dicey though when Sean’s 19-year-old daughter Katie (Rossum) is murdered. Sean then begins going crazy as Dave is one of the suspects for the murder. As such, all hell breaks loose.
You’ll be on the edge of your seat throughout Mystic River no matter how many times you watch it. The acting, plot, and everything else is simply just that good.
Next: Cloverfield
29. Cloverfield (2012)
Written by Drew Goddard
Directed by Matt Reeves
Starring Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, T.J. Miller, Michael Stahl-David, Mike Vogel, Odette Annable, Anjul Nigam, Margot Farley, Theo Rossi
While it may not be remembered as one of the greatest horror movies ever, it certainly deserves a place on this list for the franchise that it created. Who would have thought the first Cloverfield movie would spawn two sequels and a world around it?
Told with the shaky camera view of found footage, we get to see a story told from our protagonists’ point of views. Well, only one view in a way. It’s all told from this one camera. Anything that isn’t on the camera doesn’t get shown, and that includes the monster. While there are a couple of quick glimpses, most of the monster has been left to our imagination, and that’s the great thing about it.
This is one of those stories that gives us the standard destruction of New York City, including the Statue of Liberty being decapitated. However, it tells us another tale within it all—how far a group of friends are willing to go to ensure that everyone makes it out of a crumbling city alive.
Next: Amelie

27. Amelie (2001)
Director: Jean-Pierre Jeunet
Starring: Audrey Tautou, Mathieu Kassovitz, Rufus
Amelie is a delightful film!
In the film, Amelie (Audrey Tautou), a young woman, sets out of a quest to make people happy and to make the lives better for others. Along the way, she finds happiness for herself.
Amelie was a huge worldwide success. Despite its small budget, the film grossed more than $170 million in theaters around the world. Remember, this was back in the early 2000s when movies were much cheaper than they are now, too!
Amelie was also nominated for five Oscars, including Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. The film, unfortunately, did not win any awards, but it definitely deserved a couple.
Next: Spectre

27. Spectre (2015)
Director: Sam Mendes

This marks the fourth time Daniel Craig has played Agent 007 and we see Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz join the cast as Ernst Stavro Blofeld, who returns to the series.
Fans of the Bond films will remember Ernst Stavro Blofeld is the leader of the global crime syndicate Spectre and the stepbrother of Bond. He wants to launch a surveillance network that will keep tabs on the entire world and we learn the events that that transpired in the most recent three movies are all part of Blofeld’s master plan.
Sam Mendes, who directed Skyfall, directed Spectre. directed the movie and he oversaw one of the most expensive movies to make with a reported $245 million budget.
Next: Knives Out

26. Knives Out (2019)
Written and Directed by Rian Johnson
Starring: Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Katherine Langford
There was a lot working against Knives Out at first glance. It had a high-profile cast that could have ended up being a gimmick and it was in a genre that is often known for being over the top and predictable. And yet, Knives Out became one of the best movies of 2019.
The all-star cast was certainly not a gimmick; all having great roles and utterly despicable but fun characters. We got to see some of our favorite actors in different lights, getting a chance to see their acting skills.
Then there was the story, which could have been badly written and over the top. Instead, the murder mystery element took us on a wild ride. It was brilliantly fused with twists and turns we didn’t see coming, bringing elements of the Agatha Christie murder mysteries we’ve come to know and low. It allowed us to think but also just sit back and enjoy at the same time.
It’s not often that a movie will see critics and audiences agree, especially in this genre. Knives Out surpassed expectations and became a must-watch for everyone.
Next: Troop Zero

25. Troop Zero (2019)
Directed by Bert and Bertie
Written by Lucy Alibar
Starring Viola Davis, Mckenna Grace, Jim Gaffigan, Mike Epps, Charlie Shotwell, Allison Janney
Are you ready for a movie that will make you laugh, cry, and cheer with joy? Want a great underdog tale that is full of comedic moments and heartfelt scenes? Troop Zero is a must-watch.
Originally released at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, Amazon jumped at the chance to stream it, knowing that it was one for all. However, it would be January 2020 that it would finally be released on Prime. That puts it on our list.
Troop Zero is a heartfelt story about a young girl with a dream. While the dream may sound absolutely crazy for the rural south in the 1970s (even for now), it’s a dream that she’s going to fight to achieve. And she has a great group of people around her to help.
Within the story is one of discrimination against race, gender, and more. It’s one of privilege and stereotype conformity—and those who refuse to conform to be who they want.
Now is your chance to check out this excellent movie. You’re not going to regret it.
Next: Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation

24. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015)
Written and Directed by Christopher McQuarrie
Starring Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Sean Harris, Alec Baldwin, Jens Hulten, Simon McBurney, Zhang Jingchu, Tom Hollander, Hermione Corfield
Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt is a character that’s absolutely synonymous with action and spy films. They’ve been making Mission Impossible films for decades at this point and they’ve all delivered in one way or another. In terms of being overall great movies and not just “great for what they are,” the latest in Mission Impossible; Rogue Nation easily takes the cake.
Right from the get-go in Rogue Nation, something’s going awry. The IMF spy organization has been disbanded because of Hunt. However, that hasn’t stopped Hunt and his team from continuing their work. Subsequently, they’re left on the run from the CIA while they try and locate, infiltrate, and essentially eliminate a terrorist conglomerate known as the Syndicate. As you’d expect, simultaneously hunting terrorists while running from the CIA results in quite a bit of action.
What Rogue Nation does so well is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously as a film. Because of that, you’re allowed to take it seriously and accept a fascinating plot with great acting and familiar characters. It’s truly a joy to watch, even after 20 years.
Next: Midsommar

23. Midsommar (2019)
Directed and written by Ari Aster
Starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, Will Poulter
Midsommar is an excellent thriller that starts off with a couple on a vacation to an idyllic town. If only things would remain that way. It’s soon clear that there’s something strange about the people in the town, and it turns out there’s a pagan cult involved.
However, this also has a personal aspect to it. Pugh plays the role of Dani Ardor, a woman who is grieving the loss of her family. Her sister killed herself and their parents through carbon monoxide in the home, and now she needs to deal with her feelings and move forward in life. At the same time, she needs to deal with her relationship, which is crumbling around her as she pulls away due to the events with her family.
It’s a dark tale that isn’t afraid to make you think and feel. What you think is happening and going on may not be the case.
This is one of Ari Aster’s best works to date, and shows off more to come in the future. At the same time, it marks Florence Pugh’s rise to fame, as she continues to deliver on her star potential. You’re not going to want to miss out on this A24 movie.
Next: The Peanut Butter Falcon

22. The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
Written by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz
Directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz
Starring Shia LaBeouf, Zack Gottsagen, Dakota Johnson, John Hawkes, Bruce Dern, Jon Bernthal, Thomas Haden Church
Every now and then, there’s an extra special movie that comes around. It looks like it’s just the same as many others on the surface, but manages to capture the hearts of viewers in ways that others haven’t. The Peanut Butter Falcon is one of those movies.
Shia LaBeouf made 2019 his comeback year in style. The Peanut Butter Falcon is one of those movies, showing changes he’s made to his life and passion he has for the job again.
On top of that, we had Zack Gottsagen, a man with Down syndrome playing a character with Down syndrome. It’s important representation, especially for those with disabilities in a lead role of a movie. In fact, the movie is focused on Zack’s character, Zak. He’s a man with a dream, and he will do what it takes to reach that dream.
There’s a beautiful tale of friendship and drive. It’s not about just reaching that dream, but living a life at the same time. Everyone deserves to gain life experiences, don’t they?
Next: Invisible Life
21. Invisible Life (2019)
Directed by Karim Aïnouz
Written by Murilo Hauser, Inés Bortagaray, Karim Aïnouz
Based on The Invisible Life of Eurídice Gusmão by Martha Batalha
Starring Carol Duarte, Julia Stockler, Gregorio Duvivier, Bárbara Santos, Flávia Gusmão
There are many movies out there that bring thought-provoking storylines. In recent years, that’s been the attempt more often than not, but not all movies become successful. Invisible Life is one of those thought-provoking movies to check out.
It focuses on two sisters, who grow up close to each other. However, they are separated by a lie their father tells them. Each sister believes the other is half a world apart, but really, the two live in the same city. It’s not as easy as just a quick text message to uncover the truth, as Invisible Life is set in 1950s Rio de Janeiro.
Instead, the two sisters must go on a journey for each other. They chase their dreams, fighting against repression and oppression.
While bringing a story of two sisters, it brings a story of two women fighting against the expectations of men. They’re not willing to follow the patriarchy, and their sisterhood will see them through.
Next: The Lincoln Lawyer

20. The Lincoln Lawyer (2011)
Written By: John Romano, based on the novel by Michael Connelly
Directed By: Brad Furman
Starring: Matthew McConaughey, Ryan Phillippe, William H. Macy, Marisa Tomei, Josh Lucas
The Lincoln Lawyer is based on the 2005 novel by Michael Connelly. Yes, the same Michael Connelly who created the Bosch novels. You know right away that this is going to be a strong story.
McConaughey plays Mike Haller, a defense attorney who works out of his Lincoln sedan. This makes it possible for him to move around and take on various cases. Usually, he takes on cases that involve petty crimes, but he suddenly gets a case that involves a Beverly Hills playboy. This could make or break his career.
However, it soon turns out to be much harder than he initially thinks. It also turns out that it’s far more dangerous than any case out there, giving us plenty of twists and turns along the way.
Critics and audiences alike believe that this is a movie to watch. It holds an 82% score from the audience and an 84% score from the critics, making it Certified Fresh, on Rotten Tomatoes. McConaughey’s acting is one of the strong points, with fans of the actor happy that he finally got some meaty material rather than a typical romcom.
The plotting is another strong point. This does come from the fact that it’s a Connelly novel adaptation.
Next: Get Duked

19. Get Duked (1968)
Directed and written by Ninian Doff
Starring Viraj Juneja, Lewis Gribben, Samuel Bottomley, Rian Gordon, Eddie Izzard, Georgie Glen, Kate Dickie, James Cosmo, Kevin Guthrie, Jonathan Aris
When you’re in need for a satirical comedy, Get Duked is the movie for you. Originally called Boyz in the Wood, the movie got a more fitting title. After all, the boys are not in any woods in the Scottish Highlands!
The movie follows a group of four teenage boys who are doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Three of them need to pass so they’re not expelled, while one of them is doing it because it looks good on his university applications. Little do they realize but they’re going to end up the prey for the “Duke of Edinburgh’s” games.
The four teenagers need to work together to save themselves from two upper class people attempting to “thin the herd.” Their claim is that the lower class are doing nothing for society.
The farmers may disagree, especially after they hear one of DJ Beatroot’s tracks. And yes, it’s Beat-Root, as in “root of the beat.”
The comedy is far-fetched, but it’s hilarious and just a good night of entertainment. Plus, it’s on 90 minutes long, which is short for a movie now.
Next: Cold War

18. Cold War (2018)
Director: Pawel Pawlikowski
Starring: Joanna Kulig, Tomasz Kot, Borys Szyc, Agata Kulesza, Cédric Kahn, Jeanne Balibar
Cold War has the war setting in the background, but it’s a love story at the heart of the movie. Nominated for three Academy Awards in 2019, including Best Foreign Film, the movie focuses on two people who couldn’t be more different than they are. They come from different backgrounds, different class systems, and have different political ideals.
It looks like the two shouldn’t work, but they fall in love and they want to defy the odds. Despite finding themselves in different countries and separated due to war, they want to find their way back to one another.
However, it’s not just the story that you’ll want to check it out for. This Amazon Studios movie takes on a different look and style. It’s filmed completely in black and white, making you feel like you’re in the time period. Moving across different countries, the filming and lighting come together with the costumes and settings to give that sense of the Cold War period.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Cold War is Certified Fresh. It holds a 92% Tomatometer reading, and the audience is almost just as happy about it, with 83% of people liking it. You’ll certainly want to check it out for yourself.
Next: A Quiet Place

17. A Quiet Place (2018)
Director: John Krasinski
Writer: Bryan Woods, Scott Beck, John Krasinski
Starring: John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe
There’s no denying that A Quiet Place is one of the best horror movies to come out in recent years. It takes on the dystopian future and alien invasion storylines and offers something unique. This time, everyone needs to remain silent. If they make a noise, the aliens will kill them.
It’s a tale of survival and of family. There’s love and loss throughout, and you’ll certainly find yourself on the edge of your seat.
Hype for A Quiet Place began as soon as it debuted as South by South West in 2018. When released in April 2018, it immediately became a financial and critical success, grossing more than $340 million around the world. This was far more than its estimated budget of $17 to $20 million.
While it didn’t win, the horror was nominated for one Oscar for Best Achievement in Sound Editing. However, it did win other awards throughout the season. Emily Blunt won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and it won Movie of the Year at the AFI Awards.
It remains Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a movie you don’t want to miss on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: One Child Nation

16. One Child Nation (2019)
Directed by Nanfu Wang and Jailing Zhang
How much do you actually know about China’s One Child policy? You will have certainly heard about it. I remember learning about it in school. However, do you know just how much the people of China went through because of this policy? Do you know the knock-on effect it has today, despite coming to an end back in 2015?
One Child Nation sheds a light on the truth behind the policy and the way it affected people. Nanfu Wang was a child born under the one-child policy. At the time, she didn’t even know what it meant, but after getting pregnant with her first child while in the United States, she decided to research more into the policy.
Wang headed back to China, where she explored the effects that this policy had. She spoke to people from her own rural village, the midwives who would need to help ensure parents only had one child, and the family planning officials. There are people from both sides of the coin interviewed during this documentary.
It certainly received high praise from both cricits and audiences. It’s Certified Fresh for its illuminating probe into the painful chapter in Chinese history.
Next: Honey Boy

15. Honey Boy (2019)
Directed By: Alma Har’el
Written By: Shia LeBeouf
Starring: Shia LeBeouf, Lucas Hedges, Noah Jupe, FKA Twigs
It’s not often that the majority of critics and audiences will agree on a movie starring Shia LeBeouf being worth watching. Honey Boy wasn’t just a movie that starred the troubled actor, though. It gave us an insight into LeBeouf’s childhood and life.
For years, we’ve wondered what’s been going on with one of our favorite child actors. While in rehab, LeBeouf took the time to get things on paper by writing this movie, about a young boy who deals with his growing fame, an abusive, alcoholic father, and a troubled life. We get to see the downward spiral into drinks and drugs.
It’s a dark look into one man’s life. The knowledge that this is based on truth adds a layer of heartbreak and horror to it. But it’s also beautifully crafted and directed, offering a movie that everyone should watch at least once.
Honey Boy is one of those movies where critics and audiences agree. It’s Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 94% approval rate from critics and 92% approval rate from audiences. Now you get to watch it over and over again on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: Fighting With My Family

14. Fighting With My Family (2019)
Directed By: Stephen Merchant
Written By: Stephen Merchant
Starring: Florence Pugh, Lena Headey, Nick Frost, Jack Lowden, Vince Vaughn, Dwayne Johnson
Fighting With My Family initially looks like a movie for wrestling fans, but it’s something bigger. Based on the true story of Saraya “Paige” Bevis’ rise to fame in the WWE (formerly the WWF). It’s a look at the steps she took to reach for her dream, and the family that did and didn’t (initially) support her.
Naturally, there are some liberties taken with the movie, but they don’t take away from the overall story. Those who want to learn more have the chance to do that, but those who just want to watch a family dramedy get the chance to do that too.
Florence Pugh made a name for herself with this movie, leading to other great performances throughout 2019. It also has a standout cast with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stepping in as a role he played back during his time in the WWF. While not just for wrestling fans, those who watched it in the 90s will certainly get some sense of familiarity and have some throwbacks.
It’s an entertaining movie that focuses on the willpower to succeed. There are plenty of things we can all learn, and now the movie is on Amazon Prime Video.
Next: Late Night

13. Late Night (2008)
Director: Nisha Ganatra
Starring: Emma Thompson, Mindy Kaling, Hugh Dancy, John Lithgow, Max Casella, Denis O’Hare
Late Night is one of those movies that tells the current workplace climate like it is but with added humor and context. We get a story of truth from Mindy Kaling’s point of view, based on when she was a writer on The Office, but we also get an entertaining movie that many can take lessons from.
Emma Thompson is excellent as Katherine Newbury. It’s clear that this role was written with her in mind, and she steps into it with an air of sophistication. This isn’t a character you’re going to like at first, but as the movie goes on you learn more. She’s complex and beautifully crafted to make her human and intriguing.
Meanwhile, Kaling is excellent as Molly, the new writer in an all-male and all-white writer’s room. Considering it’s based on real experience, there’s an added flare to the room. This is a woman who is outnumbered but isn’t afraid to speak up and speak her mind. She’s someone we should all strive to be in a workplace that’s hostile and misogynistic.
The majority of critics and audience members agree. It’s Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, making it clear that this is a movie to watch.
12. Rocketman (1985)
Directed by Dexter Fletcher
Written by Lee Hall
Starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, Bryce Dallas Howard
There are many musical biopics out there. They tell the tale of a musician or actor’s life, whether alive or dead. Although usual, the biopics are done after death as a way to commemorate or celebrate particular moments in the artists’ careers. Rocketman is based on the early life of Elton John, a musician who is very much alive and kicking.
This could have been a disaster. Instead, it turned out to be one of the best movies of 2019. In fact, it’s one of the best musical biopics around. Taron Egerton captured Elton John’s personality perfectly, leading to praise from the singer/songwriter.
A biopic about Elton John seemed like just a pipe dream. The project had been in development for decades with multiple people in mind or accepting the lead role. If that was the only hurdle to get over. Fortunately, the wait and hard work paid off.
There were pressures to cut out a sex scene between Egerton and Richard Madden. However, director Dexter Fletcher refused to do so. He wanted to tell the real story and not a PG-13 version of it. Paramount Pictured feared it would affect sales. On opening weekend, it made back $25m of its $40m budget. Overall, it made $96m in the United States and $195m worldwide. Maybe it would have made more being a PG-13 movie, but this was authentic and the story Lee Hall and Fletcher wanted to tell.
You can watch Rocketman on Amazon Prime Video now.

The film won the Oscars in two of those categories, Best Screenplay and Best Actor for Casey Affleck.
The film was the first Amazon original film to win an Oscar.
Next: One Night in Miami
10. One Night in Miami (2021)
Screenplay by Kemp Powers
Based on the novel One Night in Miami by Kemp Powers
Directed by Regina King
Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, Leslie Odom Jr.
What could have been had four of the most iconic Black men in 1960s American had got together? What would they have talked about? That’s the story One Night in Miami.
The movie is a fictionalized telling of a meeting in 1964. It all comes off the back of the men facing racism or humiliation in their careers, and all four want to make some changes. But what changes can they make?
There are also tensions between them. This isn’t just one chat where they get to put a plan together to change things. It’s one of discovery and understanding. They need to see how others see them. More importantly, how Black people see them. These men may all want something similar, but they don’t have the same views or opinions on how to get there, and that’s what makes this movie so powerful.
It’s a heavy story. It’s a character-driven and a story-driven movie that is an outstanding debut from Regina King. There is no doubt that you need to check it out.
Next: Herself

9. Herself (2020)
Written by Malcolm Campbell and Clare Dunne
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd
Starring Clare Dunne, Harriet Walter, Conleth Hill
There are a lot of stories out there that showcase women leaving abusive relationships. Usually, the focus is on the buildup, seeing why the woman chooses to leave and setting up the plan to get out. That’s not the case with Herself.
This movie focuses on the aftermath. The issues of social housing, the problems with the courts, and the need to find somewhere to start over. Of course, there are the thoughts of returning to the abusive relationship because it might be the easiest thing going.
Herself offers a character-driven story that offers hope and inspiration. It’s not an easy life, and the movie doesn’t sugarcoat the uphill struggle many mothers escaping abusive relationships face. Instead, it focuses on what one mother will do for her children.
And with her strength and courage comes the love and support from others. The welfare system may refuse to help, but friends don’t. Even those who are sure a plan is doomed for failure end up helping.
But will it all work out? Can this one woman see it through to the end and keep her children at the same time. You’ll be on the edge of your seat waiting to find out.
Next: The Aeronauts

8. The Aeronauts (2019)
Screenplay written by Jack Throne, with story by Tom Harper and Jack Thorne
Directed by Tom Harper</strong
Starring Felicity Jones, Eddie Redmayne, Himesh Patel, Tom Courtenay
After the success of The Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones teamed up once more in The Aeronauts, and there’s no doubt that we loved it. The two personalities shone through their character, bringing to life the highs and lows of their tale.
Both took on roles of characters ahead of their time, viewed as ridiculous for their dreams. And yet, they go through with their dreams, determined to succeed. It’s certainly not easy, as they both have a brush with death and there are moments that will leave you on the edges of your seat. It’s certainly one of the most thrilling rides you’ll go on.
Of course, it looks like it wasn’t a success when you look at the Box Office figures. Something to remember is that the movie only had two weeks in theaters, despite initially being made for an IMAX run. Amazon wanted to bring it to Prime Video as soon as possible, reducing the time in theaters and, therefore, reducing the chance of gaining the budget back immediately. However, it’s surely a success on the streaming service.
It is Certified Fresh, with both critics and audiences loving it.
Next: I Am Legend

7. The Vast of Night (2020)
Directed by Andrew Patterson
Written by James Montague and Craig W. Sanger
Starring Sierra McCormick, Jake Horowitz, Gail Cronauer, Bruce Davis, Greg Peyton
What do you get when you give a new director a small budget and an unknown cast? Most people wouldn’t expect an excellent movie. And yet, that’s exactly what Andrew Patterson offers with The Vast of Night.
On the surface, it looks like a movie that takes too much from The Twilight Zone. Instead, it pays homage to the old-school science fiction shows and movies, while telling its own heartfelt story. There’s a magic within the tale that science fiction of today just can’t seem to create.
The Vast of Night is set in a small town in New Mexico and focuses on two friends who hear strange noises over the airwaves. They decide to investigate, and their journey takes them on one of revealed secrets and strange events. It’s an exciting thriller that will leave you glued to the screen from start to finish.
Is it a blockbuster masterpiece in terms of graphics? Of course not considering the budget, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. Give Patterson a bigger budget and he will create the greatest movies you’ll ever see. That’s clear just from this one.
Next: Brittany Runs a Marathon

6. Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019)
Written and directed by Paul Downs Colaizzo
Starring Jillian Bell, Michaela Watkins, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Lil Rel Howery, Micah Stock
It would be easy to assume that Brittany Runs a Marathon is just another movie to push the idea of being thin is the only way to succeed in life. If you think that, then you haven’t seen it yet. And I’m not sure you really watched the trailer properly. After all, this isn’t about a woman who wants to lose weight, but a woman who wants to be a healthier version of herself.
After spending her whole life coasting through, her new doctor gives her a prescription of exercise and a healthy diet instead of the Adderall she’s trying to score. And she decides to take it seriously by signing up for the New York marathon. I mean, c’mon, the clue of what she’s going to do is in the name of the movie.
This is one of the most heartfelt movies you’ll want, while being hilarious. It’s honest and raw, but doesn’t prescribe to the idea of being thin is the only way to get through life. Brittany doesn’t want to be a skinny mini, because that’s not healthy either.
Brittany Runs a Marathon was loved by critics and audiences alike, rated Certified Fresh. It’s a must for your Friday night in.
Next: Everybody's Talking About Jamie

5. Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (2021)
Written By: Tom MacRae
Based on the book Everybody’s Talking About Jamie by Dan Gillespie Sells
Directed by: Jonathan Butterell
Starring: Max Harwood, Sarah Lancashire, Lauren Patel, Shobna Gulati, Ralph Ineson, Adeel Akhtar, Sharon Horgan, Richard E. Grant
There are many coming-of-age stories out there. Usually, they focus on young girls who are finding their way in the world. Things are changing as we focus on those who don’t necessarily fit what is considered “normal” in today’s society—and isn’t the term “normal” just becoming outdated and backwards?
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a story about a boy who has a dream of glitz and glamor. He wants to be on stage as a drag queen. It’s all he dreams about, but it’s a big step outside the norm. Naturally, he faces criticism from those who don’t quite think his dreams are worthwhile.
That’s okay; he has his mom and best friend by his side. On top of that, he has a drag queen mentor who will make sure he can follow his passion.
This is a great movie that focuses on dreaming big. It’s a movie about following passions even if they’re not considered “normal.” Be yourself. This is one that all teenagers should watch and learn from.
Next: Cinderella

4. Cinderella (2021)
Directed by: Kay Cannon
Written by: Kay Cannon
Starring: Camila Cabello, Idina Menzel, Minni Driver, Nicholas Galitzine, Billy Porter, Pierce Brosnan
There are a lot of versions of the Cinderella fairy tale. Amazon brought a modern-day version of the story. While it is partially set in a world that looks like the past, there are some modern elements to it. The story itself has a modern twist.
In this one, Ella doesn’t want to find her prince. She’s not searching for true love. Her dream is to own her own business. She wants to become a dressmaker, and she will do whatever she can to make it possible. That includes turning down a proposal from a prince because it means she’ll never be able to follow her dream.
Even some of the other characters’ storylines have changed. The prince doesn’t necessarily want to be king, and the evil stepmother may not be evil just for the sake of it but has a bit of a backstory of her own.
On top of that, there are some excellent covers of popular songs. There’s no doubt you’ll find yourself singing along.
It’s a great story for the whole family. This is a movie to put on to empower and encourage young girls (in fact, everyone!) to follow their dreams.
Next: Interstellar

3. Interstellar (2014)

The screenplay for Interstellar was written by Jonathan and Christopher Nolan. The film was also directed by Christopher Nolan.
Interstellar is set roughly 50 years in the future after a crop blight is threatening the future of human existence on the planet. A group of astronauts led by Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) travels into and through a wormhole to find another planet that is inhabitable for humans.
Interstellar was nominated for five Oscars at the 2015 Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects, Best Original Score, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Production Design. The film won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
Next: The Big Lebowski

2. The Big Lebowski (1998)
Writer and Director: Coen Brothers
Starring: Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, David Huddleston, Julianne Moore, Tara Reid, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Elliott, Ben Gazzara, John Turturro
The Coen Brothers have a unique way of blessing the screen every time they create a film, however, there might not be a comedy in their catalog quite as lasting or iconic as The Big Lebowski, which premiered at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival.
Jeff Bridges stars in the lead as “The Dude” who is continuously tortured and chased by various groups of people and thugs as he’s mistaken for the wrong “Lebowski.” What ensues is a hilarious and absurd series of events as The Dude and his pals try to get to the bottom of the situation and make it out of everywhere they go alive—even if they are in way over their heads.
Though The Big Lebowski was critically well received when it was first released, it’s only gotten more popular as the years have gone on and it’s developed a cult following and a strong place in pop culture.
The Big Lebowski undoubtedly belongs among the 50 Best Movies on Amazon Prime Video. And that’s not just, like, my opinion, man.
Next: The Report

1. The Report (2019)
Written and directed by Scott Z. Burns
Starring Adam Driver, Annette Bening, Ted Levine, Michael C. Hall, Tim Blake Nelson, Corey Stoll, Maura Tierney, Jon Hamm
The Report was one of the most anticipated new Amazon movies of the year, ever since it was acquired during the Sundance Film Festival in January 2019. There was certainly some shifting around of the release dates to give it the best chance possible, both in its short theater run and on Amazon Prime Video.
The Adam Driver movie is based on real events following 9/11. It was a tense time, so it wasn’t surprising to hear that the CIA was possibly doing some questionable things to gain “answers.” Driver’s character was sent to uncover the questionable actions, trying to figure out if the CIA was helping or harming situations.
Of course, he received some pushback. Naturally, there were attempts to cover things up or explain things away. We get to see the journey Daniel J. Jones went on to uncover the truth and bring it to light to the American people.
The Report has been raved about by both critics and audiences. It’s currently Certified Fresh, and praised for its gripping account of a dark chapter in American history.
