1. The Report (2019)

Written and directed by Scott Z. Burns

Starring Adam Driver, Annette Bening, Ted Levine, Michael C. Hall, Tim Blake Nelson, Corey Stoll, Maura Tierney, Jon Hamm

The Report was one of the most anticipated new Amazon movies of the year, ever since it was acquired during the Sundance Film Festival in January 2019. There was certainly some shifting around of the release dates to give it the best chance possible, both in its short theater run and on Amazon Prime Video.

The Adam Driver movie is based on real events following 9/11. It was a tense time, so it wasn’t surprising to hear that the CIA was possibly doing some questionable things to gain “answers.” Driver’s character was sent to uncover the questionable actions, trying to figure out if the CIA was helping or harming situations.

Of course, he received some pushback. Naturally, there were attempts to cover things up or explain things away. We get to see the journey Daniel J. Jones went on to uncover the truth and bring it to light to the American people.

The Report has been raved about by both critics and audiences. It’s currently Certified Fresh, and praised for its gripping account of a dark chapter in American history.
