There are many coming-of-age stories out there. Usually, they focus on young girls who are finding their way in the world. Things are changing as we focus on those who don’t necessarily fit what is considered “normal” in today’s society—and isn’t the term “normal” just becoming outdated and backwards?

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is a story about a boy who has a dream of glitz and glamor. He wants to be on stage as a drag queen. It’s all he dreams about, but it’s a big step outside the norm. Naturally, he faces criticism from those who don’t quite think his dreams are worthwhile.

That’s okay; he has his mom and best friend by his side. On top of that, he has a drag queen mentor who will make sure he can follow his passion.

This is a great movie that focuses on dreaming big. It’s a movie about following passions even if they’re not considered “normal.” Be yourself. This is one that all teenagers should watch and learn from.
