What do you get when you give a new director a small budget and an unknown cast? Most people wouldn’t expect an excellent movie. And yet, that’s exactly what Andrew Patterson offers with The Vast of Night.
On the surface, it looks like a movie that takes too much from The Twilight Zone. Instead, it pays homage to the old-school science fiction shows and movies, while telling its own heartfelt story. There’s a magic within the tale that science fiction of today just can’t seem to create.
The Vast of Night is set in a small town in New Mexico and focuses on two friends who hear strange noises over the airwaves. They decide to investigate, and their journey takes them on one of revealed secrets and strange events. It’s an exciting thriller that will leave you glued to the screen from start to finish.
Is it a blockbuster masterpiece in terms of graphics? Of course not considering the budget, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. Give Patterson a bigger budget and he will create the greatest movies you’ll ever see. That’s clear just from this one.
