How much do you actually know about China’s One Child policy? You will have certainly heard about it. I remember learning about it in school. However, do you know just how much the people of China went through because of this policy? Do you know the knock-on effect it has today, despite coming to an end back in 2015?

One Child Nation sheds a light on the truth behind the policy and the way it affected people. Nanfu Wang was a child born under the one-child policy. At the time, she didn’t even know what it meant, but after getting pregnant with her first child while in the United States, she decided to research more into the policy.

Wang headed back to China, where she explored the effects that this policy had. She spoke to people from her own rural village, the midwives who would need to help ensure parents only had one child, and the family planning officials. There are people from both sides of the coin interviewed during this documentary.

It certainly received high praise from both cricits and audiences. It’s Certified Fresh for its illuminating probe into the painful chapter in Chinese history.
