Remember when Jennifer Lawrence won her Golden Globe for Silver Linings Playbook in 2013 and joked “I beat Meryl!” upon acceptance? Well, she had, in fact, beat Meryl Streep (who had also been nominated for Hope Springs), but the erstwhile Katniss Everdeen was also quoting the legendary comedy film The First Wives Club.

Starring the knockout trio of Diane Keaton, Better Midler, and Goldie Hawn, The First Wives Club follows three women scorned by their husbands after they trade in their wives for newer models. Since they each played a hand in helping their husbands gain success, they won’t accept being dumped. Instead, they decide to get revenge.

It’s no wonder that the surprise box office hit has an enduring cult following (which happens to include one of the most famous movie stars on the planet). For years, there have been rumblings of a sequel to the film taken on a second life in a musical production and will soon become a TV Land comedy series starring Alyson Hannigan, Megan Hilty, and Vanessa Lachey.
