You probably haven’t heard of Obvious Child, but you most definitely have seen its star Jenny Slate pop up in more than a few of your favorite shows. In Parks and Recreation, Slate brought one-half of the spoiled Saperstein kids to life. In Girls, she played Hannah’s arch rival Tally Schifrin. Slate also appeared in Kroll Show, Married, and House of Lies among others.

But with Obvious Child, Slate stands out in the leading role. The romantic comedy finds stand-up comedian Donna (Slate) pregnant after a one-night stand with Max (Jake Lacy). But where this romantic comedy about unplanned pregnancy differs from others like Juno and Knocked Up lies in Donna’s decision to have an abortion.

Obvious Child opened at the Sundance Film Festival, where it was met with overwhelming praise for the subject matter and Slate’s performance. The film’s combination of heavier topics and hilarious humor earned it two Independent Spirit Awards and Slate a Critics’ Choice Award. Obviously, there’s something to love about Obvious Child.
