Yardie is Idris Elba’s directorial debut in feature films, which deserves a mention in its own right. However, it’s more than that fact that lands this movie on the list of 50 best movies on Amazon Prime Video.

Based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Victor Headley, Yardie, is a tale of family — both blood and perceived — honor, duty, and revenge. When D witnesses the murder of his brother, it stays with him forever. After a young life of crime, there’s hope that he can get his life back on the straight and narrow.

However, he’s put to the test when his brother’s murderer shows up years later. Will he remain faithful to the honest life or will he act out of revenge?

Despite the lower ratings for the movie (due to some of the plotlines), this is a movie worth seeing. It puts life into perspective, telling the story through the eyes of a Jamaican immigrant in London. The positives surround the acting, cinematography, and acting.
