There are times when movies don’t initially feel like they need to be made. That was initially the case for the live-action movie based on the preschool series Dora the Explorer. What could this movie offer for families?

In the end, it became one that all families with younger children need to watch. Yes, it is over-the-top action. There is definitely a highly predictable storyline there. But that’s not what matters. It’s a fun movie for the entire family to watch.

Kids will love it because it’s Dora the Explorer. Adults will love it for some of the humor that’s thrown in, especially Dora’s face when she says “can you say…” Who exactly is she speaking to?

There are many lessons to learn along the way. Dora needs her friends. And her friends need Dora. There aren’t all the love interests that so many other movies include. Sure, there’s a bit of a teen romance going, but this is about friendship and acceptance.

Just the smile on children’s faces make Dora and the Lost City of Gold a must-watch.
