41. The Crazies (1973)

Directed and written by: George A. Romero

Starring: Lane Carroll, Will MacMillan, Harold Wayne Jones, Lloyd Hollar, Lynn Lowry

What could possibly go wrong when a military plane crashes into a small town’s water supply? Well, how about infecting it? If you loved the likes of Cabin Fever for the realistic element of poisoned water spplies, then you’re going to enjoy The Crazies.

After being infected, the townspeople start to go crazy. From insanity comes death. So, the military is called in to clean up its own problem and that leads to more issues. The townspeople view the military as invaders and start to infect those who have come to help them. Is there even any hope for anyone?

For those who like a movie without a happy ending, you’ll certainly want to check out. It gives a real look at just how insane people can go when their water supply is tainted and everyone around them is getting infected. And then you have to wonder whether it’s really just the water supply that’s causing the delusions coming out of the individuals.

Some on Rotten Tomtaoes admit that it’s not the best film out there, but it’s Romero. There are certainly exciting and tell-tale elements to this one.
