Independence Day: Resurgence is the sequel to the original Independence Day film starring Will Smith. Unfortunately, Smith was not in the second film.

In the film, which is set 20 years after the events of the first film, Earth is attacked once again by an alien force. This time, though, Earth is prepared for the war!

Overall, Independence Day: Resurgence was not considered that successful. The film grossed more than $400 million in theaters, but the critics and most fans did not like the movie. This is probably the final movie of the Independence Day franchise, but Emmerich and others have hinted at a possible sequel to this film.
