Moonlight is a coming of age story that’s told across three different time periods. The story follows our main character through adolescence, teenage years and young adulthood as he grows up in Miami during the height of the War on Drugs and without any parental guidance. All the while, he’s coming to terms with his budding sexuality.

Moonlight was nominated for eight Academy Awards and came away with three wins. Mahershala Ali won for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney won for Bst Adapted Screenplay and famously won for Best Picture. The Best Picture win came after La La Land was erroneously announced as the winner. This movie is best served watching and seeing for yourself than relying on plot summaries and film reviews because it’s so good and so compelling that you have to see it with your own two eyes.
