While Amazon has disappointed about a few other shows, that’s not the case for Reacher fans. Alan Ritchson brought us some surprise renewal news.

December is the time for hot cocoa and gift giving, but it is also the time for surprises. At least, that’s something Alan Ritchson, who plays the titular character in Reacher on Prime Video, shared. He certainly had a great surprise for us.

The second season hasn’t even premiered yet, and he brought us the news that Season 3 is officially happening. Not just that, but he is on the set right now. Yes, production has started, which means that renewal happened a few months ago to get the writing work done.

What will Reacher Season 3 be about?

That’s all we know right now. Amazon has not told us anything about the new season. We don’t even know which book it will be based on.

As you know, Reacher is based on the Lee Child novels. The first season was based on the first book, but the second season is based on the 11th book. The focus is on the storylines that make sense to adapt rather than just working through book by book in order. As long as the character development for the lead makes sense, the cases he finds himself involved in don’t need to be in the same order as the books.

With production starting up now, it could mean that we get the third season in either late 2024 or early 2025. Yes, there was a long break between the first two seasons, but part of that was a delay in production starting up and then post-production may have been halted during the SAG-AFTRA strike.

We expect a weekly release for it when it does come out, and right now, we’re expecting an eight-episode season.

While sharing the renewal news, Ritchson also brought us an extended sneak peek of Reacher Season 2:
