Could Amazon save Shadow and Bone?
Netflix has canceled Shadow and Bone after just two seasons. Could Amazon step in to save the series? What are the chances?
With the SAG-AFTRA strike at an end, we knew that it would mean a lot of news about our favorite shows. Not all of it would be good news, and Netflix has dished out bad news for a lot of fans.
Shadow and Bone was among five shows canceled at the streamer. On top of that, fans learned that the Six of Crows spin-off series wouldn’t happen. Now eyes are on what that means for the series. Is it completely dead, or is there a chance that Amazon could step in to save the show?
Amazon likely won’t save Shadow and Bone
It’s highly unlikely that this is a series that will be saved. When reporting the news, Entertainment Weekly didn’t share that it is being shopped around. That would suggest that everyone involved has accepted that this is the end and isn’t looking for a streamer or network to save it.
Streaming shows are hard to save, just as we saw with some popular shows back when Disney canceled its Marvel contract with Netflix leading to shows like Daredevil and The Punisher being canceled. The contracts tend to have clauses in them to prevent the shows from moving to another streamer for a few years, and by that point, the interest will have moved onto other projects. It makes it very difficult to save the fantasy show.
What also won’t help is the negative opinions about the second season. It combined the second and third books and made some substantial changes to the story. The ending was completely different to the way the book ended. While that was great for a potential third season, it annoyed the loyal book readers who were excited to see how things would play out based on the trilogy that was a complete story. This could lead to Amazon deciding not to take the show on.
Shadow and Bone is only available to stream on Netflix.
