As you look at the list of Agatha Christie works, you won’t see the title A Haunting in Venice. Is it possible that this movie is just using the character and not one of her stories? Certainly not. This is a movie based on her work, but there’s a change to the title and the setting.
Which Agatha Christie book is A Haunting in Venice based on?
The movie is based on one of the lesser-known Agatha Christie books. It’s based on Hallowe’en Party, which was originally published in 1969.
The novel itself takes place at the home of Rowena Drake in Woodleigh Common. Joyce Reynolds, a 13-year-old girl at the party, shares that she saw a murder but didn’t realize it until a year later. Well, at the end of the party, Joyce is found dead, having drowned in the tub for apple bobbing.
Hercule Poirot has gained a name for his abilities by this point, and his friend Judith Butler calls on him to investigate the murder. After all, it’s a little suspicious after Joyce claimed she saw a murder of her own. Poirot works with Superintendant Spence to get to the bottom of it.
There isn’t likely to be much in the way that’s similar, except maybe the victim and the murderer. After all, not only is the setting different in A Haunting in Venice, but so it the party. It’s a seance and not a Halloween party.
A Haunting in Venice is now out in theaters.
