The Sandman Season 1 DVD release date set for November 2023

It’s not often that Netflix shows head to DVD and Blu-ray, but The Sandman Season 1 is. Here’s all you need to know about the release.

If you’d have asked me when the show first came to Netflix if it would come to DVD and Blu-ray, I’d have said “probably not.” Not many Netflix shows do get physical releases. I certainly didn’t expect one that had so many graphics to create to come to DVD and Blu-ray.

Yet, maybe with it being a Neil Gaiman series and a production in the UK, things were different. There are a lot of cases where UK shows head to DVD and Blu-ray due to the contracts. Just look at The Crown and The Last Kingdom.

The Sandman Season 1 DVD and Blu-ray release date

There is still some time to wait before the first season of the series heads to DVD and Blu-ray. The official release date is Tuesday, Nov. 28. It’s coming in 4K as well as the standard DVD and Blu-ray formats, which is certainly a great thing for all the beautiful graphics that have been used in this series.

The release is way more than the year after the release on Netflix than we’re used to. However, we’d rather have it now than not at all. If the series is removed from Netflix for whatever reason, we can add it to our collections.

What about on Digital, though? This type of release we’re not expecting at all. It doesn’t make sense for Netflix to allow content to be released on Digital, and we don’t see that happen very often. With the DVD release, there’s the need to be in a physical location with a DVD player. If people want to watch on the go, they still need Netflix. With a Digital release, the Netflix subscription is no longer necessary.
