A Million Miles Away is heading to Prime Video at the end of the week. What is this movie about, and is it based on a true story?

This week sees the release of a few new Amazon Originals. One of them is a movie called A Million Miles Away. Of course, the fact that it stars Michael Peña is sure to be a reason to watch, but you’ll want to know what it’s about to get an idea of whether it’s a story for you.

This is a story about determination and perseverance. It is based on the true story of Jose Hernandez, who became the first migrant farm worker to go into space on NASA’s Discovery shuttles.

What is A Million Miles Away about?

The story follows Jose’s dream of becoming an astronaut. Many people may find that hilarious at first, especially when you hear that he grew up as a farm worker, but just because someone is a farm worker doesn’t mean they’re not destined for greatness.

Jose went to work on gaining the skills needed to reach the stars. He would apply to the space program, only to be rejected. Then he would try again and be rejected again. After a couple of rejections, a lot of people would give up. That wasn’t something Jose wanted to do, though. This was his passion; his big dream in life.

With each rejection came another round of improving his skills and abilities. With each rejection came the time of reflection to see what he could do differently next time. Eventually, that dream came true. I guess that’s a spoiler for the movie, but you know the spoiler if you know the true story, right?

A Million Miles Away is coming to Prime Video on Friday, Sept. 15.
