Midge has had her eyes set on being on the Gordon Ford show. Did that dream come true in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale?

Caution: This post contains major spoilers for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale.

Since The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4’s finale, Midge has had one goal in mind. She wanted to get onto the Gordon Ford Show.

She was almost there. When she landed a job in the writers room, there seemed to be a chance. That was until she learned that those who worked on the show couldn’t be on the show as a guest. So, Midge decided it was time to go around Gordon.

When she learned Susie and Gordon’s wife had a past, she asked Susie to talk to her. Gordon’s wife did, and Gordon was not happy with that. Would he put her on the show?

Did Midge get on the show in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale?

She did get on the show, and then she spent the rest of the episode calling those important to her and finding the perfect outfit. Dinah was awesome in making sure Midge got this big break.

Then it came to the show and Gordon made it clear that Midge wasn’t going to perform. She wasn’t going on as a guest but as a way to show the world his writing staff. Nobody was happy with this, and it was clear that Gordon was just sulking—and maybe a little scared that she would be funnier than him?—but Midge went on and tried to get through the night.

When she made a joke, Gordon quickly cut to a commercial. Everyone made a point that there were four minutes left. That’s when Midge realized she needed to do something big.

It was reckless and could have worked against her, but she decided to step up and do her act anyway. Everyone loved it, even her parents and Joel, who she poked fun of. I just wish there was a pencil joke in there when it came to Penny to connect back to the series premiere. However, it worked and even Gordon found it funny.

Midge was invited over to the chairs as all guests are, making it clear that she was safe. Her job wasn’t—she was fired as a writer—but she was safe. He would invite her on the guest again, and we know that this would be the turning point for Midge.

How did The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel end for Midge?

At the very end, there was a flash-forward to 2005. Susie is no longer her manager, and Midge makes it clear that she is not happy about having nothing booked on Tuesday.

It’s when we see her in her house that we see why she keeps herself so busy. The only people in that large house are her staff. She has photos of all those she’s loved throughout her life, including Joel. There’s a photo of the two of them for her wedding day. Midge had said she still loved Joel, but it doesn’t seem like they ever officially got back together. They work because they’re not together.

There is someone still in her life, though. After that 1990s flash-forward, it turns out Midge and Susie did make up. Susie now lives on another continent but they regularly phone and watch Jeopardy! (that they’ve taped!) together. I love that friendship.
