What happened to Abe in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale?
Abe had a huge moment in the penultimate episode that played a part in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale. What happened to the character?
Caution: This post contains spoilers from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale.
During the penultimate episode of the series, Abe Weissman had a huge moment. He realized that he’d spent plenty of time nurturing his son, but never his daughter. He felt some guilt about that, but he also felt a little confused.
This is something a lot of men in the 60s during the 1960s faced. They were born before the turn of the century with specific views about life and expectations. Of course, the ’50s and ’60s came and there was a huge movement of women doing more, being more independent. It’s also something Midge brings up in her final act.
Abe could have mentioned how proud he was of Midge to his colleagues and then moved past it, but he didn’t. That moment was pivotal in a reaction he had in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale.
Did Abe see Midge perform in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale?
When Midge learned she would be on the Gordon Ford Show, she called everyone. One of those was Abe. She had tried to call Rose, but the phone was off the hook.
Abe was ecstatic that his daughter was going to perform. This was not something he was going to miss, and it was a huge change from that first performance he saw of hers. Remember the one in the Catskills? He even tells Midge how proud he is of her, and it’s a heartwarming moment. Men of his age wouldn’t share those sorts of emotions, and it’s clear that it throws Midge off for a second.
There is a moment where it looks like Abe and Rose may not be able to get to the show. The taxis are on a shift change and they have to take a bus. They get there, though, and Abe shares again how much he’s enjoying seeing Midge on stage, even if she is just on a stool at that point.
Abe isn’t upset or offended when Midge uses him for some of her jokes when she does get to do the act. I just love that we see the growth that he’s had all series long.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series finale is now streaming on Prime Video.
