Will Lenny Bruce come back for more Mrs. Maisel Season 5 episodes?

Midge spotted Lenny in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 premiere. Will he be back for more episodes, or was that goodbye final?

When we learned Luke Kirby was no longer a series regular on Mrs. Maisel, we worried about what that meant for Season 5. Would that mean no more Lenny Bruce?

Well, the good news is Lenny was in the Mrs. Maisel Season 5 premiere. If it felt like that final goodbye, there is a reason for it. It turns out that this is it for the character.

While many other characters have unknown futures because they’re fictional, Lenny is based on a very real comedian. Sadly, that comedian lost his life to a drug overdose in 1966. He went on a downward spiral, and that started around about this point in the timeline—1961.

Midge saw that Lenny is on some hard drugs during the Season 4 finale. Well, we’re also seeing how he starts to get blacklisted from everywhere. The mention of his lawyers certainly sets up the suggestion that he’s got multiple legal cases that he just can’t fight.

Kirby shared with Entertainment Weekly (via Gold Derby) that he didn’t know what was in store for his character. Something just felt very final about that goodbye in the airport, so he played it a little differently than all the other ways he played the goodbyes with Midge. This one has a finality to it, and it will be the last one.

Of course, there’s a chance we’ll hear about what happened to Lenny in one of the flashforwards. We just won’t see the full storyline play out with Lenny’s downward spiral and death. There will likely be a focus on the characters who have died and added something to Midge’s life, and we know Lenny is one of them.
