Why is The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ending with Season 5?

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 has started. It’s the beginning of the end, but why is the series ending after this season?

There are a lot of TV shows coming to an end this year. We’ve seen Hunters and Carnival Row air their final seasons, and we’re potentially expecting Jack Ryan Season 4 to arrive sometime later this year. This week, it’s all about another popular show: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

This has been one of the best shows for Amazon, landing multiple Emmys over its five-season run. Of course, fans are disappointed that Season 5 is confirmed as the last. Why is it coming to an end? Why would Amazon cancel such a great show?

Why The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 is the last

Well, it’s not that Amazon canceled the show. This was a decision made by the creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. While there may have been a plan to go for longer originally, things started to change due to the pandemic.

Due to filming delays, it took a while to get The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4. Amy and Dan looked at the plan for Midge and realized that it could be better to wrap up the story. After all, this is a story that needs to end rather than be abruptly canceled.

The fourth season certainly ended in a way that would allow Season 5 to be the last. Midge had her season of fear, opting for a smaller gig in a way to prevent failure again. However, she saw names in lights at the very end, and now it looks like that’s what she wants for herself. She just needs the courage to reach out and grab it.

Instead of seeing the ratings drop and Amazon abruptly cancel the show, it made more sense to write the fifth season as the end. We’ll see at the end of May if it’s a happy ending for Midge and her family and friends.
