Is Knock at the Cabin based on a book?
M. Night Shyamalan has divided opinion yet again with Knock at the Cabin. What a lot of people want to know now is whether the movie is based on a book.
If we know one thing about M. Night Shyamalan movies, it’s that they divide opinions. Some people love the twists at the end, while others hate them. Some people love the movies all the way up to the twists, while others find the whole thing a bore.
Knock at the Cabin is another movie with mixed reviews. Personally, the movie was okay but the ending was a little too easy to guess. It felt like everything was wrapped up in a bow instead of being left ambiguous.
So, if you’re disappointed by the ending, you’ll want to know if there is any source material. Was Knock at the Cabin based on a book?
Knock at the Cabin book: The Cabin at the End of the World
It turns out that this movie is based on a book. You’ll be able to turn to The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul G. Tremblay. I don’t want to spoil things for you with how the ending goes. I’ve not even read the book, but I know the ending, and I have feelings about some of the changes.
Just know that the ending is a little more ambiguous, and from what I know of it, I would have loved to see that ending to the movie. Other parts of the book are slightly different, and some of them I’m glad weren’t included. I can also understand why they weren’t included.
The Cabin at the End of the World follows the basic same premise. A family heads to a cabin for a vacation and four strangers turn up. They all say that the family needs to sacrifice one of their own to save the entire planet. Is the apocalypse really coming? That’s something for the family (and the readers) to figure out.
