Who plays Hastur in Good Omens?
Hastur, Duke of Hell, is a high-ranking Demon in Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The series is based on the book. He appears in five episodes of the Amazon series.
Hastur is a Duke of Hell with a very sadistic personality, who takes delight in killing with a ruthless and unending joy that seems to shine through even in hell, which is really saying something. Hastur is introduced to us in the first episode with Ligur (Ariyon Bakare) when they deliver the antichrist to Crowley played by David Tennent (Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) at the Order of Chattering Nuns of St Beryl.
Hastur ends up disbanding the Chattering Nuns of St. Beryl after the switch of the Antichrist. He also questions Crowley’s true loyalties and intentions. Eventually, Hastur comes to realize that Crowley has been working with Aziraphale, played by Michael Sheen, (Underworld, Masters of Sex and Twilight: Breaking Dawn) solidifying his opinion that Crowley has gone soft.
Eventually, Hastur drags Crowley back to Hell to put him on trial for the crimes he has committed against Hell and other demons alike. Well, we all know how that turned out for him in Good Omens…
Who plays Hastur in Good Omens?
Hastur is played by British-Irish actor Ned Dennehy. Ned is known for his role in Peaky Blinders as Charlie Strong and Lionel Brown in Outlander.
Throughout the series, Ned Dennehy repeatedly amazes the audience with his rather creepy and unnerving portrayal of Hastur. This was perfect for his role in Good Omens, ensuring he will be remembered for this role for a long time to come.
What projects do you think he will appear in next? Has this series opened him up to the idea of pursuing more spooky and supernatural roles in the future? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
