Is Hunters based on a true story?

Hunters Season 2 is now available to stream on Prime VIdeo, and it’s time to see the hunt for Adolf Hitler. Is the series based on true events?

After a three-year wait, we’ve finally got to watch the hunt for Adolf Hitler. Hunters Season 2 is available, and the final hunt has come to an end.

As you watch the series, you’ll want to pretend that it’s all alternative fiction. After all, we know Hitler and Eva killed themselves in Hitler’s bunker. What if that wasn’t the case? Is it possible that this series is based on a true story?

There are a lot of conspiracy theories in Hunters

One of the ways Hunters works is that it runs with a lot of conspiracy theories. There are people who believe that Hitler didn’t die in his bunker. There are people who believe that his death was faked and he managed to escape to Argentina. It’s not surprising that the series is running with that.

Of course, there is no proof this happened. There is also no proof that Eva got out, either.

That being said, there are some true elements to the show. A lot of Nazis did manage to get out of Europe and went to Argentina. There were a lot of Nazis pardoned and they worked for NASA and other major organizations due to their knowledge.

What is unlikely is the hundreds of Nazi officers living secretly in New York City. There’s no way they would have remained hidden for so long, especially if they were plotting the Fourth Reich!

The events shown at the concentration camps in the series are all fictional. This was done on purpose by creator David Weil. His grandmother was a holocaust survivor and Weil didn’t want to use real people or real events to tell this story. He still wanted to avoid whitewashing the story, so found a way to do it creatively, even though the Auschwitz Memorial isn’t happy about that.

There were Nazi hunters after World War II

What about our group of protagonists? None of the characters were based on real people, but there were real Nazi hunters in the 1970s. One of my favorite books is The Huntress by Kate Quinn, which goes into some of those who searched for Nazis in the past.

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre was just one organization set up in 1977. Simon Wiesenthal was a Holocaust survivor and spent his life after the War seeking justice. The Centre continues to fight this fight, although the majority of Nazis have now passed on or been convicted. Sadly, there are still people raised with Nazi views, so the fight has to keep going on.
