Why is Hunters canceled after two seasons?
If you were hoping for Hunters Season 3 to happen, there’s some bad news. The series ended with its second season, but why?
When we got the premiere date for Hunters Season 2, we got some bad news for those who wanted more. The series was coming to an end. Season 2 would be the last, bringing us a hunt for the biggest Nazi of all.
The alternate history series brought us Adolf Hitler at the end of the first season. The second season is all about tracking him down and finally killing him. How it ends is a surprise. We’re not sharing spoilers in this post. However, it’s worth noting that at some point in the production process, the news came out that this would be the final season.
Why is Hunters ending with Season 2?
Amazon and the creators haven’t been upfront about the decision to bring the show to an end. We’re taking a guess to say that the pandemic is to blame.
It’s taken three years almost for the second season to arrive. That is a long wait, and it wasn’t like the show was actively marketing itself during that time. We got news that Jennifer Jason Leigh was joining and that filming had finished in the U.S. and was moving to Europe, but that was it.
Amazon may have realized that the wait without the news wasn’t good. The Wilds was active on social media and the show was still canceled. While Upload was renewed for a third season, it took Amazon time to make that decision. The long wait between seasons hasn’t been good for shows, so it makes sense to wrap up some if possible.
Hunters isn’t the only one wrapping with its second season. Carnival Row has had the same treatment, and that series had a three-and-a-half-year wait for the second season to come out. It looks like the decision was made during production on that, too, making sure storylines could be wrapped up.
At least we get what seems to be an ending. It probably isn’t perfect (again, no spoilers) but there is an ending there. It’s not the abrupt cancellation that The Wilds got.
