Here is a quick review of the Asus RT-AX55

A good Wi-Fi 6 router at an affordable price for your home Wi-Fi, the Asus RT-AX55 fits the bill nicely. In comparison to some of the more expensive Wi-Fi 6 routers currently available, it has a top speed of 1.8Gbps, which is rather modest. While it will still provide fast, reliable internet for web browsing, streaming video, and some casual gaming, it will still be able to handle most home broadband services and be more than capable of handling most home broadband services.

As well as offering dual-band Wi-Fi 6, the Asus RT-AX55 has four Ethernet ports for wired connections. An easy-to-use app helps newcomers get started and a web browser interface gives advanced users greater control.

It can also be used in a mesh network along with other Asus routers if you need to extend your wi-fi further.

Here are the price and availability details for the Asus RT-AX55

Dimensions: 205 x 232 x 150mm Length: 374mm Weight: 420g Wi-Fi: dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (2.4GHz/5.0GHz) Speed: 1.8Gbps

At only 119 dollars (£119, AU), the Asus RT-AX55 is a very competitively priced Wi-Fi 6 router. That makes it an excellent upgrade for most small and medium-sized homes that need the extra speed and reliability.

As previously mentioned, you can buy more Asus routers and use them together to create a mesh network system if you ever relocate or need to upgrade your Wi-Fi even more. In addition, the Asus RT-AX56U includes a USB port for adding a network drive to the device, which costs £121, AU.

Here are the features and design of the Asus RT-AX55

While it lacks Asus’ ominous Cylon attack ship design of its high-end gaming routers, the RT-AX55 has a sleek design with a sleek black casing and go-faster red stripes to give it some flair. The router comes with a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 connection, a gigabit Ethernet port for connecting to your existing router, and four more Ethernet ports for wired connections.

A QR code on the router base allows you to connect the router to your new network, and the application is easy to use. In the initial step, the network isn’t secured with a password, so you will need to quickly move on to the next step, where you will be able to create a password and also change its name if you wish.

Additionally, we were pleased to see that the app lets you create a single network using both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands, or two separate networks on those bands at the same time. Additionally, advanced users can use a web browser interface to adjust the network settings in a more detailed way.

Additionally, Asus offers a security feature called AiProtection, which protects your devices from malware and viruses by monitoring your network. Additionally, you can set up user profiles for family members and set up schedules for limiting their Internet access.

It’s all about the performance with the Asus RT-AX55

Ookla Speed Test – 2.4GHz No obstruction within 5 feet, 100Mbps/11Mbps within 30 feet,  three partition walls: 90Mbps/11Mbps

20GB Steam Download – 2.4GHz No obstructions within 5ft: 12.5MB/s Three partition walls within 30ft: 11.0MB/s

Ookla Speed Test – 5.0GHz No obstructions, within 5ft: 100Mbps/11Mbps Within 30ft, three partition walls: 100Mbps/11Mbps

30ft, three partition walls: 12.5MB/s Within 5ft, no obstructions: 12.5MB/s

The Asus RT-AX55 is an excellent upgrade for our ageing Wi-Fi router, despite its low price. In Ookla’s speed test, the old router reported speeds of 100Mbps for nearby devices in the same room, while Steam downloads were reported at 12.5MB/s, the speed support by our office broadband connection for Steam downloading.

Our old router couldn’t reach the office at the back of the building, so we had to rely on PowerLine adapters to provide a more reliable wired connection, so we replaced it with the Asus RT-AX55, which matches those speeds for nearby devices in the same room.

Asus’ RT-AX55 has a 5.0GHz band that maintains 100Mbs Wi-Fi speeds with Ookla and 12.5MB/s for Steam downloads in the back office. Streaming video and browsing routinely is still possible with the 2.4GHz band, which dips from 90Mbps with Ookla to 11MB/s with Steam, but I can finally use my old Dell laptop, which only has 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, wirelessly.

The Asus RT-AX55 should not be purchased if…

Unless you’re a power user, the RT-AX55 should be considered an entry-level Wi-Fi 6 router because 1.8Gbps is very slow. Power users and gamers will prefer tri-band routers with faster speeds.

You need parental controls because the Asus RT-AX55 does let you schedule your child’s Internet access, however it doesn’t come with the same filters and other features as some of Asus’ more expensive routers.

Think about this as well

Asus RT-AX58U is another great option from Asus that is affordable and will provide you with 4K video streaming and gaming speeds of 3Gbps.
