What is Good Night Oppy about?

We’ve always been curious about space. Well, okay, the modern world has been curious for a very long time, and there is a big focus on Mars. With Earth struggling with its population and climate problems, experts are looking at whether Mars can sustain life.

One of the best ways to do that is to send robots to the planet to send back data. One of the robots built for this job was Opportunity. She was sent to Mars for a 90-day mission, but she lasted 15 years.

What is Good Night Oppy about?

The movie looks into the creation of Opportunity and that journey of hers across Mars. We see the work that went into her development, with all the natural elements she would need to face. Scientists knew that she would need to withstand things never considered on Earth, with dust clouds being one of the biggest concerns.

In the end, Opportunity surpassed the 90-day mission. She survived for 15 years, bringing back plenty of data and connecting to the hearts of the people. The movie gives us a chance to see her in action and see the type of data that was sent back. It’s time to give Opportunity the praise she has always deserved.

Sure, she’s an object, but she won the hearts of everyone who heard her story. You can’t tell me you don’t fall for Wall-E in the Disney movie, and Opportunity is very much like a real-life Wall-E in terms of looks. It’s hard not to connect on that alone. (By the way, yes, I know Opportunity came first but most people will have seen Wall-E first.)
