Will The Lord of the Rings series come to DVD and Blu-ray?
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has debuted on Prime Video. Will the TV series ever come to DVD and Blu-ray? What about on Digital?
It’s finally time to see The Lord of the Rings TV series. The first two episodes are now available to stream on Prime Video, with the rest of the season coming weekly. Of course, you’ll be excited to see the finale to see how this first season’s story goes.
One thing you’ll want to do is to add it to your DVD collection. We all like to keep our franchises in one place, and you likely have The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies at home on DVD and Blu-ray. Why wouldn’t you? You can watch them whenever you want without figuring out which streaming platform they’re on.
Will it be possible to add the TV series to your collection? We take a look at what Amazon could do.
The Lord of the Rings series could come to DVD and Blu-ray
Never say “never.” It’s very rare for an Amazon series to head to DVD and Blu-ray, but it’s certainly not impossible. We have seen the odd show and movie get a DVD release. In fact, the most recent was The Boys, which saw the first two seasons come to disc together around the time of the Season 3 release date on Prime Video.
We could see Amazon release The Lord of the Rings on DVD and Blu-ray at some point in the future. It’s not going to be any time soon, though. If The Boys is anything to judge, we’re looking at waiting three years or so for the DVD release to happen. We’re not expecting it on Digital, though.
The delay and the decision to avoid a Digital release make sense. Amazon will want to keep its big shows exclusive to its streaming platform. However, there will be a fanbase that wants the show added to their Lord of the Rings DVD collection they already have, so eventually brining the series to DVD would be a positive move.
