It’s no secret that The Summer I Turned Pretty tested so well with initial audiences that a second season was greenlit weeks before the show’s June 17 premiere. The series, which is based on Jenny Han’s best-selling YA series of the same name, will be back on our screens with a new co-showrunner on the series. Gabrielle Stanton is being swapped out for Sarah Kucserka for Season 2.
The Summer I Turned Pretty follows Isabel Conklin, aka Belly (Lola Tung), during her summer of love triangles and first loves. Belly finds herself caught between her first crush Conrad (Christopher Briney), his brother, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), and a boy named Cam (David Iacono). Season 1 ends with Belly finally making her choice, no spoilers here, but we can’t wait to see if they last.
So what can we expect out of Season 2? Well fans of the books will know that Season 1 followed the first book of the three-book series, which gives us a few good guesses as to who will be back next season.
Who will return in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2?
With The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 1 following the first book semi-closely, we can only assume that Jenny Han will be keeping in a similar fashion with one major change.
In the books, Conrad and Jeremiah’s mother, Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) chose to not fight her cancer recurrence, and a huge theme in the second book is the main characters processing her death. However in the series, Susannah decides to treat her cancer. Does this mean that Susannah will be back for Season 2?
From the books we know that Belly, Conrad, Jeremiah, Steven (Sean Kaufman), and Shayla (Minnie Mills) will be there, but what about Cam? He really only appears in the first book, but as a fan favorite, we never know what could happen.
