What is Paper Girls about?

Paper Girls is coming to Prime Video at the end of the week. What can you expect from the Amazon series? Here’s what we know so far.

Three years ago, we learned Amazon had picked up Paper Girls to series. It’s only just coming out this weekend, and we couldn’t be more excited about it. The series is based on the graphic novels of the same name and is sure to boost Amazon’s YA content.

Before you start watching any new series, you want to know a little bit about it. What can you expect from the show? Is this going to be something that’s in your wheelhouse of interests?

We can look at the source material to get a sense of what to expect. We won’t go into the spoilers from the story, but we will touch on the basic storyline that our paper girls find themselves in.

Paper Girls synopsis

The series is initially set in 1988. It’s Halloween 1988 to be exact. Don’t expect the story to remain in the time period, though.

Four paper girls are expecting the day to be just like any normal day. They get ready for their paper rounds, and they try to stay out of each other’s way. However, things take a surprising turn when they find themselves in the middle of a time war.

While in the middle of the storm, they end up transported to the future, where they get to meet their adult selves. Of course, they don’t want to stay in the future. They want to get back to their own time, and they will need to put their differences aside to make that possible.

If only it was a case of just going back to where they came from with a push of a button. There is a group of people who have banned time travel in an attempt to remain in power. Now, our 12-year-old girls are trapped in a time where they are wanted for time traveling. If they’re caught, they’re dead.

And they thought it would just be a normal Halloween. These girls are going to need therapy when they grow up!
