When is Lightyear coming to DVD and Blu-ray?
It’s time to go to infinity and beyond with Pixar’s first theatrical release since the start of the pandemic. Lightyear is out, but when it is on DVD and Blu-ray?
Throughout the pandemic, Pixar has opted to release movies straight to Disney+. Some of them have had theatrical releases too, but due to many theaters being closed, the releases weren’t exclusive. This is the first exclusive theatrical release since 2020.
Lightyear is the origin story of Toy Story‘s one and only Buzz Lightyear. We get to see his journey to infinity and beyond, although it’s not quite going to feel the same. Not only is the animation very different to Toy Story, but Tim Allen isn’t voicing the character. Chris Evans has the role instead.
Lightyear DVD and Blu-ray release date predictions
Pixar hasn’t confirmed the DVD release date just yet. That’s not surprising considering Lightyear is only just in theaters. We’re looking at previous Pixar releases to get an estimate on the DVD release.
For this, we’ll look at Toy Story 4 and Luca. While Luca was straight to Disney+, it did also get a DVD and Blu-ray release date and gives us an idea of the most recent release window.
It took about three and a half months for Toy Story 4 to go from theaters to DVD and Blu-ray. Luca‘s release window was substantially shorter at just six weeks. We’re potentially looking at something more like the former release window for Lightyear.
With that in mind, we could be looking at around Tuesday, Oct. 4 as a release date. If Pixar keeps it shorter, then we’re looking at some time at the end of July or the start of August. This is certainly a release we’ll be keeping an eye on. After all, it has to be added to the Toy Story DVD collection.
Lightyear is now available to watch in theaters.
