The CW made some shocking cancellation decisions on Thursday, May 12. Naomi was one of the shows cancelled. Could Amazon step in to save it?
We usually see TV shows get a fair chance of survival on The CW. Things changed this year, with the bulk of programming being abruptly canceled. That included the new series Naomi.
Naomi came from Ava DuVernay, and the cancellation came just days after the season finale, which became a series finale. The series followed a teenager with a passion for comic books. She even hosts a Superman fansite.
After a supernatural even in her town, Naomi heads out to figure out its origins. Along for the ride are her best friend, her adoptive parents, and a tattoo shop owner with a big secret.
Will Amazon save Naomi?
Is there a chance that the series will be saved by Amazon? This is unlikely, sadly. The live ratings for the series just weren’t that great, which didn’t help with the preemptions due to the Olympics and then the March hiatus.
It would depend on how the international ratings and delayed ratings were. The only way Amazon would consider saving it is if there was the international interest. It’s hard to see that with just one season.
On top of that, we’d need to know there would be an audience on Prime Video in general. This isn’t a streamer that has a lot of superhero shows. The Boys and Invincible are the two top ones, but both are extremely different to those that air on The CW.
It also doesn’t sound like the production studio is shopping the series around. This could be linked to Warner Bros. stepping back from a lot of shows it had running on The CW.
