Since the days of Gossip Girl, we’ve been ready to see Meester’s star shine. The Weekend Away is her newest movie, and it’s now available to stream on Netflix.

The Weekend Away probably won’t come to DVD and Blu-ray
This is a Netflix Original Movie. This brings the bad news that The Weekend Away is unlikely to head to DVD and Blu-ray.
There are a few exceptions. We’ve seen the likes of The Irishman and Marriage Story get a DVD release. These movies were in theaters, though. That affects the DVD release as it would be written into the contracts for them to head to Netflix as originals.
The Weekend Away hasn’t headed to the theaters. This means that it’s probably not a movie that will get the DVD release date.
Why won’t The Weekend Away go to DVD?
Wouldn’t it make sense for Netflix to release movies on DVD? There are a lot of people who prefer to own it.
The problem is encouraging people to buy on DVD would take people away from Netflix. The whole point of a subscription service is to have content that is exclusive to it. It certainly doesn’t make financial sense for Netflix to make it possible to buy the movie once and never need Netflix.
That’s why we won’t see the movie head to Digital either. It doesn’t make sense to make it possible to pay once and watch online anytime people want.
