What is The Tender Bar about?
The Tender Bar is making it to Amazon Prime Video at the end of the week. What exactly is this coming-of-age drama about?
After receiving a limited release in 2021, The Tender Bar will be available for everyone to watch at the end of the week. It stars Ben Affleck, Lily Rabe, Christopher Lloyd, and Tye Sheridan, and was written by William Monahan and directed by George Clooney.
The movie is based on the memoir of J.R. Moehringer. It’s based on a true story, which adds another layer to this sweet and inspiring coming-of-age tale.
Affleck has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture. However, the movie has received mixed reviews from the critics.
What is The Tender Bar about?
The movie follows nine-year-old J.R. Maguire, who is based on Moehringer. He just wants a father figure, and he finds that in his unconventional uncle. Charlie is a bartender, who introduces his nephew to the weird and wonderful regulars at the joint.
J.R. also lives with his mom and his grandfather. It’s not the most conventional setup when it comes to family, but does that really mean that J.R. can’t succeed?
We follow J.R. throughout the years as he figures out what he wants to be when he grows up. He realizes that he wants to be a novelist, and it’s going to be up to his unconventional family to support him. Is it possible to succeed when you don’t have the usual people in your corner? What about when part of his family becomes the colorful people at the bar?
