5 best Amazon movies for the weekend

Here are some great Amazon movies to enjoy for your New Year’s weekend.

Lady of the Manor (Dec. 31)

The comedy Lady of the Manor was written and directed by brothers Justin Long and Christian Long. This movie is a buddy comedy starring Melanie Lynskey, Judy Greer, Justin Long, Ryan Phillippe, Luis Guzmán, and Patrick Duffy.

Hannah (Lynskey), whose life is a mess, takes a job at Wadsworth Manor as a tour guide portraying Lady Wadsworth, a former resident of the manor. When she encounters the ghost of Lady Wadsworth, she tells Hannah she must mend her ways, or she will haunt her forever.

Time Is Up (Dec. 31)

Time Is Up is a new romance film starring Bella Thorne, Benjamin Mascolo, Nikolay Moss, Roberto Davide, Sebastiano Pigazzi and Giulio Brizzi.

Vivien (Thorne) is a physics student who feels life is a formula she must follow, putting her happiness on the sidelines as she strives to be accepted into a prestigious university. Roy (Mascolo) is troubled by childhood trauma that keeps him from reaching his full potential. They will both experience something that will help them start living their lives now instead of putting it off for things they think they must do.

13 Eerie (leaving on Dec. 31)

The horror film 13 Eerie was originally released in 2013 and is Lowell Dean’s directorial debut. Six undergrads head to the deserted island of Eerie Strait, which was used to hold life-term prisoners. Unknown to the students, the island was also where illegal biological experiments were conducted on the prisoners. The students travel to the island to perform scientific field exams on the corpses of the prisoners.

Of course, things go wrong, the walkies malfunction, and all kinds of other mishaps turn what should have been a simple field exam into an all-out horror.

We Were Soldiers

We Were Soldiers is a dramatization of the Battle of Ia Drang based on the novel We Were Soldiers Once… and Young (1992) by Lieutenant General (Ret.) Hal Moore and reporter Joseph L. Galloway.

Set during the Vietnam war, the film shows the horrific mission of the soldiers as they are ordered to eliminate the North Vietnamese attackers responsible for an attack on an American base. With no idea of how many soldiers the enemy consists of, US Army Lieutenant Colonel Hal Moore (Mel Gibson) must lead his men blindly into battle.

Back at the base, Moore’s wife, Julia (Madeleine Stowe), takes on the responsibility of the Army wives and the delivery of the telegrams notifying the next of kin of the deaths of the soldiers. This story arc is heartbreaking and uplifting to see the women bond during this horrific time.

If you have never watched this movie, you really need to check it out.

Under the Tuscan Sun

The 2003 romantic comedy Under the Tuscan Sun is a delightful movie based on  Frances Mayes’ 1996 memoir.

Frances (Diane Lane), a recently divorced writer from San Francisco, embarks on a life-altering trip to Tuscany. After her divorce, she loses her writing inspiration, and her friend encourages her to take a journey to find some inspiration. When she arrives, she sees a few signs that she feels are pointing her to her future.

This is a great romantic comedy, and Diane Lane shines in this story.
