Kung Fu got a modern-day, gender-swap reboot on The CW. It’s time to own Kung Fu Season 1 on DVD and Blu-ray, but what will you get?

The CW brought some great new shows during the 2020–2021 TV season. Kung Fu was one of them, with Olivia Liang as Nicky Shen. The show didn’t just opt for a gender swap. It brought much better representation in front and behind the camera.

Nicky leaves her family when they travel to China, only to return to San Francisco three years later. She’s only back after her Shaolin mentor was killed, and she finds her hometown overrun with crime and corruption. The Triad has taken over, and she needs to make things right while also getting vengeance for her killed mentor.

Kung Fu Season 1 DVD release date

The complete first season is available to purchase now, released today, Tuesday, Nov. 2. All 13 episodes are included on the boxset.

Yes, there were only 13 episodes. The show was a midseason series for The CW, and midseason shows tend to only get 13 episodes for the sake of time. It also didn’t help that the schedule was changed up a little due to the pandemic.

The episodes are available to stream on HBO Max already. You can also purchase them on Digital. However, there are some bonus features that you’ll miss out on if you opt for either of those two options.

Bonus features on the DVD and Blu-ray boxsets

There is a selection of deleted scenes available only on the DVD and Blu-ray releases. Our sister site, Precinct TV, had an exclusive of one of the deleted scenes, which features Nicky’s martial arts skills.

There’s also a featurette called Bond of Honor. Honor is important within the Chinese culture, and it played an important role within the series.
