HBO leaves Amazon Channels: HBO Max prices temporarily halved

We knew it was coming, but it’s still sad. HBO is no longer available via Amazon Channels. To counter the loss of subscribers, you can bet HBO Max cheaper for a short time only.

The cable network leaving Amazon Channels has been in the works for some time. WarnerMedia wants to encourage subscribers to come directly to its own apps, although for a while, those who had Amazon Channels subscriptions were able to sign into HBO Max with their details via the app on Amazon Fire devices.

If you want to watch programming from the network, you can still buy it directly from Amazon Video. Original programming eventually heads to Digital, although not as quickly as broadcast shows. All the movies that are released on the streamer after theatrical releases will no longer be available via Amazon Channels.

For those who want to keep up with HBO content as it’s released, you’ll need to head over to Max.

HBO Max available for half price for a limited time only

WarnerMedia knows that there was a risk of losing subscribers. A large number of subscribers go through Amazon Channels. It is the easiest way, keeping costs in one place and making it easy to watch programming through Amazon Prime Video.

To counter that, Deadline reports that HBO Max is now available to purchase for half price. This is going to be available until Sept. 26.

It’s available for up to six months for those who subscribed to the premium cable network via Amazon Channels. It is also available for new subscribers.

The Max app will still be available via Amazon Fire TV. This is a completely different aspect of Amazon compared to Amazon Channels.

Will the move last? That’s going to be interesting to see. After all, Amazon Channels has helped a number of networks gain subscribers.
