Will Amazon save Cursed?
Netflix took its time but finally announced Cursed is canceled after one season. Could Amazon step in to save the series? Is there any point?
To be honest, we all knew it. When Netflix went so long without confirming a renewal, it was clear that Cursed had been quietly canceled. The official notice finally came in July 2021.
There were still some fans of the show holding out hope for some sort of renewal. Now there are some looking to see if there’s any chance the King Arthur retelling can be saved.
Eyes turn to Amazon to save the show. Is there any chance Amazon will step in to save Cursed?
Amazon likely won’t save Cursed
The truth is it’s very unlikely that the series will be saved by Amazon—or really anywhere. The first season came out in July 2020 and we’ve gone a year without official news of the series. Chances are that everyone behind the scenes knew that a renewal wasn’t going to happen.
Actors will have started to move on as they’d have been released from their contracts. There were rumors a while ago that the sets had been dismantled and auctioned off, along with props.
While there were some questions left at the end of the season, there doesn’t seem to be enough of a call to save the show. Yes, there are certainly fans who want more, but there needs to be enough.
Plus, it’s hard for Amazon or another streaming service to save a Netflix show. The contracts usually involve clauses to prevent the shows from heading to another streaming platform for a certain amount of time after cancellation. By the time the series would be able to head to Amazon, the interest in the show would have waned too much.
Cursed is available to stream on Netflix and likely won’t be saved by Amazon Prime Video.
