By Renee Hansen
Not only is it hump day, but also the last day of June 2021. Those of us in the US and Canada will be celebrating holidays which means people have an extra day off this week, but it can make the mid-week drag. We are here to give you some great recommendations for movies on Amazon to get over the hump.
Get ready for the new releases on Amazon Prime in July, as the list is impressive. Looking down that list, I see quite a few I will be watching, including Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, 30 Days of Night, Julie & Julia, and The Wild Thornberrys Movie, please don’t judge.
Now let’s get into that list of recommendations to get you out of your hump day slump.
5 good movies on Amazon for June 30, 2021
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
The horror-comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil is a film that doesn’t take much brainpower to watch but is highly entertaining.
The films show two hillbillies, Tucker and Dale, who have purchased their dream home, a run-down cabin in the woods. A group of college kids heads to the same woods to spend some downtime camping.
Tucker and Dale, who don’t have the best social skills, are misunderstood by the college kids. After all, they know the story of the Memorial Day Massacre that was committed 20 years ago by some hillbillies. Of course, they assume the worse about Tucker and Dale, which leads to all sorts of misinformation and accidents.
It is a campy horror film, heavy on comedy. Check it out.
Eurotrip
The film Eurotrip is classified in the sex comedy genre and doesn’t disappoint. It is a guarantee that you will be singing the main song from this film before it is all over.
Scotty (Scott Mechlowicz) gets dumped on graduation day, which causes him to get drunk and mistake his German pen pal for a man who wants to meet up for illicit reasons. He discovers that this pen pal, who he has gotten on well with for years, is, in fact, a beautiful girl who wants to meet him. Scotty and his friend embark on a hilarious trip through Europe, with their final destination being Berlin, where the pen pal lives.
The film follows the group as they travel and get into all sorts of trouble. This isn’t a family film in any sense of the word. So, tread lightly. If you enjoy films like Superbad and The American Pie franchise, this film will be one to add to your queue.
Shooter
Shooter is a film from 2007 starring Mark Walhberg as Bob Lee Swagger, who is framed for murder by a private military firm.
Swagger parts ways with the military after a mission goes wrong. He goes off the grid, and no one knows where he is. Eventually, he is talked into helping the military when the President of the United States is threatened. He soon realizes he has been betrayed and sets out to get revenge against those who betrayed him.
The film also stars Michael Peña, Danny Glover, Kate Mara, Elias Koteas, Rhona Mitra, Rade Šerbedžija, and Ned Beatty.
Click
The film Click is a comedy that is produced by and stars Adam Sandler. Sandler’s character, Michael Newman, is overwork and struggling to spend quality time with his family. He meets a stranger, Morty (Christopher Walken), who gives him a magic remote that allows him to control reality.
Kate Beckinsale is Michael’s wife, Donna, and they have two children Ben (Joseph Castanon) and Samantha (Danielle Tatum McCann). In Michael’s career as an architect, he is constantly bullied by his boss John Ammer (David Hasselhoff), and is prone to choose his job over his family. He starts to use the magic remote to alter reality and skip moments he would rather not face. This, of course, leads to some alternate realities that Michael isn’t prepared to face.
The film also stars Henry Winkler, Julie Kavner, Sean Astin, Jennifer Coolidge, Rob Schneider, James Earl Jones, and Terry Crews.
The Last of the Mohicans
In 1992 film The Last of the Mohicans premiered to positive critical acclaim. This of the movies on Amazon is praised for its cinematography, the score and the performances by Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe.
The film is based on James Fenimore Cooper’s 1826 novel titled The Last of the Mohicans: A Narrative of 1757 and the 1936 film adaptation by George B Seitz. The film takes many liberties to alter the history of the story, but this only adds to the drama and romance that makes the film so popular.
Day-Lewis plays Hawkeye, the white adopted son of a Mohican named Chingachgook (Russell Means). Along with their son/brother Uncas (Eric Schweig), the father and son are tasked with delivering Colonel Munro’s daughters to him in the Adirondack Mountains. Set in 1757 during the French and American war, this is no easy task.
This film is fantastically done, and the soundtrack enhances the experience making this film one you don’t want to miss.
Enjoy the last Wednesday of June by watching some great movies on Amazon.
