This week is a good one. May 18, 2021 sees the release of 13 movies and shows on DVD and Blu-ray. And they’re not small releases either. We’re looking at some Oscar-nominated and Oscar-winning movies being released, as well as some great TV shows.

Minari, The Father, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness and more

Minari has to be one of the biggest releases of the week. Starring Steven Yuen and directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the movie focuses on a South Korean family that moves to America for the American Dream. Now living in Arkansas, they realize that the American Dream isn’t as easy as they thought it may have been.

Then there’s The Father starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. The movie is a heartbreaking one, focusing on a man with dementia who doesn’t want to give up his life or freedom. His daughter tries to take care of him, but the illness causes things to be strained considerably.

If you’re looking for a TV show, The Alienist: Angel of Darkness is going to be one of the big releases. It’s the second season of the series starring Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans, and Dakota Fanning, but the crime is a new one to investigate. Someone is kidnapping and killing infants, and the team of three will need to work with their friends to figure out what’s really going on.

For the Star Trek fans, Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 1 is heading to DVD and Blu-ray this week. It’s perfect for those who love animated comedies and are looking for something for the kids.
