It’s a new weekend, and there are some great movies on Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Channels to check out. Here are the top five picks.

This week has been on the quieter side for both Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Channel releases. That doesn’t mean it’s been silent. There are also some great movies on Amazon from earlier in the month that you can catch up on now.

We try to make sure there’s something for everyone when it comes to these types of posts. For some, that means enjoying movies full of music. For others, you’re looking for action and adventure.

We’ve picked movies from Amazon Prime Video and a couple of Amazon Channels.

5 movies on Amazon to check out this weekend

Dreamgirls

We start with the HBO movie, which you can watch through your Amazon Channels add-on. Dreamgirls has an all-star cast including Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce Knowles.

It focuses on a man called Curtis, who sees talent in three female performers. He wants to make them stars, and that leads to a long journey that includes ups and downs. When one of the women starts to fall for him, he cuts her out of the band, but is that the end of her journey?

The Godfather

Need action? The Godfather is one of the best movies ever made, and this is an excellent weekend to watch it. The movie is on SHOWTIME, available through Amazon Channels. You can also watch the sequel, The Godfather: Part II.

Al Pacino stars as Michael Corleone, the son of the head of the mafia family. When he ends up with the family empire, he puts the lives of everyone around him in grave danger. Maybe Don Vito Corleone should rethink his decision, but is there anything he can do?

The Simple Plan

Bill Paxton, Billy Bob Thronton, and Brent Briscoe are three friends who discover a crashed plane. There’s a dead pilot, but they also find more than $4m in cash. Hank Mitchell doesn’t really want to keep the money, but the other two convince him to and they split the fortune.

You didn’t think it was going to be that easy, though, did you? That decision leads to a lot of trouble in their lives.

You can watch it on Amazon Prime Video right now.

Mad Max

Love dystopian movies? Always wanted to see the original Mad Max movie? You’re in a lot of luck. The 1979 movie that kicked off the franchise is available on Amazon Prime Video.

Mel Gibson stars as Max Rockatansky, a policeman turned vigilante in a dystopian world. Max heads out on a mission of revenge against a motorcycle gang, but will he ultimately get what he wants?

Venus and Serena

Finally, it’s one of the more recent movies on Amazon Prime Video. Venus and Serena is a biographical movie about the Williams sisters. It’s a chance to look into their histories to find out more about what drove them to become the international tennis stars that they are now.

This isn’t just about the hours of practice they put in to hone their skills. It looks at their personalities, their dreams, and much more.
