Amazon set a personal record for Oscar nominations in 2021. Amazon movies gained 12 nominations across the board. Here are the movies to look out for.

We know that six of the 12 nominations were for one film. Sound of Metal made history with Riz Ahmed becoming the first Muslim to be nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars.

It is certainly a big moment for Ahmed and the Oscars. However, most of Amazon’s nominations are diverse. That’s the focus for Amazon right now, pushing boundaries and creating a room for more voices.

The other six nominations were spread across three movies, one of those being a documentary. What are you watching before the Oscars in 2021?

Amazon movies with Oscar noms: One Night in Miami, Borat 2, and Time

One Night in Miami gained three Oscar nominations. Leslie Odom Jr. was nominated as Best Supporting Actor, it gained a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and “Speak Now” was nominated for Best Original Song.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm landed two nominations, with Maria Bakalova being nominated for Best Supporting Actress. The second was Best Adapted Screenplay, which was written by Sacha Baron Cohen and seven other writers!

The last nomination was for Time, which is nominated for Best Documentary Feature.

There is certainly a lot of competition in each of the categories. In fact, some of the Amazon movies are going up against each other! They’s also going up against the likes of Minari, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and The Trial of the Chicago 7.

One thing that can be said for this year’s nominations is that it is far more diverse. A number of excellent movies, actors, and composers have landed nominations. Is there hope that more diversity will come in the future? Is it about time?
