Lightyears: Sissy Spacek and Ed O’Neill join Amazon’s sci-fi series
Amazon continues to develop shows in the sci-fi genre, with Lightyears one of the upcoming releases. Sissy Spacek and Ed O’Neill have just boarded the series.
If you love sci-fi, Amazon is quickly becoming the place to turn. With the success of The Expanse, it was only going to be a matter of time before more sci-fi shows joined the fray. Lightyears is coming up, and it’s just landed its two lead actors.
Spacek and O’Neill are veterans on TV and film. There’s no doubt the show is in good hands with them. Deadline reports that they will play the lead roles in the sci-fi series, which is sure to entertain based on the premise.
You’ll know O’Neill the most from Modern Family, which recently ended after an 11-season run. He has also starred in Married…With Children, The West Wing, and more.
Spacek is best known for her Oscar-winning performance in Coal Miner’s Daughter. She has also had recurring roles in Homecoming, Castle Rock, Bloodline, and much more.
What is Lightyears about?
Lightyears follows Franklin and Irene York, who discovered a chamber buried in their backyard that leads to a strange and deserted planet. They’ve spent the years keeping this chamber a secret and nothing’s happened. That is until a young man enters their lives and the chamber becomes far more than they ever thought possible.
Irene is a retired English teacher whose health is failing. As that happens, she is drawn more and more ot the mystery of the chamber, obsessed with the deeper meaning behind it. Meanwhile, Franklin, a former woodworker, will do anything to protect his wife, but he isn’t interested in the chamber. However, he will endure it for her sake, but he’s getting a little (more like a lot) tired of it.
Lightyears will come to Amazon Prime Video at a yet-to-be-determined date.
