Judas and the Black Messiah is one of the big movie releases in February 2021. It’s coming to theaters and HBO Max this weekend, but when will it be on DVD and Blu-ray?

The good news is that the movie is highly likely to come to DVD and Blu-ray. Despite going to HBO Max as well as theaters, just like The Little Things, Warner Bros. makes a lot of money from DVD releases. It’s a business, and the studio is going to follow the money.

In fact, it’s only on HBO Max for a month. After that, it will only be in theaters and to rent on VOD. Then it will come to DVD and Blu-ray.

Just how long are we waiting for Judas and the Black Messiah to come to DVD and Blu-ray? Here’s everything you need to know.

Judas and the Black Messiah projected DVD release date

We don’t have an exact date yet, but we can look at all the other Warner Bros. releases of the past. Even during the pandemic, Warner Bros. is unlikely to stray from its usual release format.

It tends to take three months for Warner Bros. movies to head to DVD and Blu-ray after the theatrical release. That means we’re probably looking at May 2021 as a projected month. If I had to put a date on it, I would say either May 11 or May 18.

Usually, movies come to Digital a week or two before. However, this pattern has changed due to the pandemic. We’re possibly looking at the release being on the same day or maybe the week before the DVD release date.

What is Judas and the Black Messiah about?

This American biographical drama is a story you’ve possibly heard in the past but may not have paid full attention to it. It’s time to change all that.

You’ll have heard of the Black Panthers. The group was taken down due to a betrayal within the ranks, but that betrayal wasn’t what you’d think. It wasn’t someone from the inside suddenly changing sides, but someone from the outside infiltrating the Black Panther Party.

Petty criminal William O’Neal agrees to infiltrate the Black Panther Party. He works with the FBI in return for a plea deal, and he helps to bring down the chairman of the Illinois chapter, Fred Hampton.

Daniel Kaluuya plays Fred Hampton with Lakeith Stanfield as William O’Neal.
