There may be a huge change coming to Thursday Night Football. It’s possible Amazon will get the exclusive rights moving forward.

Nothing is set in stone yet. This is all just a prediction for the future of sports, and Nick Khan predicts that Thursday Night Football will head to Amazon Prime Video in the future.

Who is Nick Khan, I hear you ask? He’s the man who helped negotiate major deals, including being at the center of the SEC’s agreement with Disney/ABC/ESPN. However, he left Creative Artists Agency in August 2020 and became the president and chief revenue officer of WWE.

He’s still doing major deals, including WrestleMania moving to Peacock for the next five years. This has been on FOX for years and now it’s on the move. To a streaming service.

It’s huge news and has led to him looking at the power of streaming services for the future. Thursday Night Football is on his radar.

Amazon already airs Thursday Night Football

For the last few seasons, Amazon Prime Video has offered up TNF. However, FOX also gets to air the games, which can lead to some wondering why bother with a subscription service when they likely already have cable.

There are benefits to TNF on Amazon, though. There’s a chance to delve deeper into the stats, which is something broadcast networks simply can’t offer.

FOX and CBS will still keep Sunday afternoon football and NBC will still have Sunday night. Likewise, ESPN will still get Monday Night Football. But the current prediction is that FOX will lose the rights to air TNF.

What will this mean for football?

Will it change too much? It’s going to be a major blow for FOX. Thursday Night Football is the biggest draw of the week. While it has success with The Masked Singer and 9-1-1, it’s TNF that keeps people tuning in.

For Amazon, it’s going to be a huge win. There’s no need to battle with the broadcaster, which anyone with a cable package automatically has. Thursday Night Football is one of the biggest mid-week draws, so naturally, people are going to flock to the subscription service to watch.

It’s not like it’s not a trusted subscription service, either. One of the big benefits of Amazon Prime Video is that you get everything from Amazon Prime at the same time.

But what about Thanksgiving football? That’s going to be the big question for many. Will it still air on NBC or will fans get to watch it on Amazon Prime Video for the first time?
