25 best Amazon Originals right now: The Wilds makes it to the list

If you haven’t checked out The Wilds yet, now is the time to do so

Something I have found when it comes to Amazon Prime Video is that it’s all about quality and not quantity. The Wilds was one of a small number of Amazon Originals released in December 2020, and it is an excellent series to binge-watch.

What is The Wilds about?

The series follows nine teenage girls who are on their way to a retreat in Hawaii. Their plane crashes and they end up stranded on a deserted island. Now they need to figure out how to survive while they await rescue.

But is rescue coming? It turns out the accident wasn’t an accident at all. It was all part of a bigger plan by a group known as Dawn of Eve.

What does this group want? How much do the parents know? That’s something you get to find out throughout the series.

Why it’s one of the best Amazon Originals

The Wilds offers an excellent and diverse cast. This goes further than give us Black and Indigenous characters (although yes, these representations are extremely important). It’s more than offering lesbian characters. We also get different body sizes, something that is barely seen on TV (although I do have to question how Fatin’s clothes seemed to fit everyone).

The series is more than just a survival show. It’s more than just a coming-of-age show. We get this series with mystery, twists and turns around every corner, and a look at mental health and support.

Each of the teenage girls has her flaws, but they all have something likable about them at the same time. You find yourself rooting for each of them as you learn more about them and their backstories.

At the same time, it’s a show that is able to leave you with plenty of questions. And that includes the finale. Thankfully, The Wilds Season 2 is happening.
