When is the News of the World DVD release date?

While many movie studios have pushed their movie release dates to 2021 and beyond, Universal Pictures has tried to keep people coming to theaters. News of the World is the latest release.

It’s the only Christmas Day release that is only coming to theaters. Other Christmas Day releases are either streaming services-only or they’re heading to both theaters and streaming platforms.

You may not feel safe heading to theaters yet. Or a theater near you may be closed. So, now you want to know when you can watch News of the World at home. When will it come to DVD and Blu-ray?

While we don’t have an exact date yet, we can work a potential date out based on previous Universal Pictures releases. We’ll look at the pandemic movies, such as The Invisible Man and The King of Staten Island to get an idea.

News of the World will be on DVD and Blu-ray in 2021

Even during the pandemic, Universal Pictures has stuck mostly to a three-month period between the theatrical releases and the DVD releases. The King of Staten Island was slightly shorter, but only by a couple of weeks.

With that in mind, we’re looking at around three months from Christmas Day, so around the end of March 2021. DVD releases happen on a Tuesday, so March 23, 2021, is a likely date.

The Digital release may happen sooner. Universal Pictures has worked with bringing movies to rent on VOD shortly after the theatrical release. Then it comes to Digital to buy around the same time as the DVD release.

Is News of the World good?

Reviews are looking good for the movie so far. At the time of writing this, there were no audience reviews because the movie hadn’t been released in theaters. However, critics got a chance to see it.

Critics rate it at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. One of the complaints is that it’s a relatively slow movie. However, Tom Hanks makes up for that.

News of the World is now out in theaters.
