The Expanse Season 5, Episode 4 recap: A traitor in the ranks
Holden learns about a traitor in the ranks on The Expanse Season 5, Episode 4
While Holden learns about a traitor, Amos visits a friend in prison on The Expanse Season 5, Episode 4. It’s time to take a look inside the episode.
We focused on all the main storylines throughout the episode. Naomi saw Marco again, Amos got to where he wanted Avasarala to get him into, and Holden continued to figure out who was behind the attack on Monica.
Oh, and Avasarala was finally proved right. If only it was in time to actually do something! We’ll start with that storyline.
Everyone finally believes Avasarala
It took long enough. Honestly, people need to learn that when Avasarala believes something, her concerns should be listened to.
During this episode, everyone in charge on Earth had blocked their calls from Avasarala. They were too busy dealing with the situation of the asteroid hitting the Earth. And it wasn’t just one asteroid. Another hit, just as the council on Mars was blown up.
Avasarala’s thoughts that Marco was behind all this were right. Just as she managed to get through to everyone via a member of the Air Force One (or the version of that) staff, another asteroid hit the Earth. This time it was close to the plane, knocking that out of its flight path and causing it to crash.
Is that it? Will Marco win? Not if Avasarala has anything to say about it.
She does manage to get people to listen to her again. With the right technology, they’re able to locate the astroids with the Mars stealth equipment on them, blowing up the asteroids.
However, Avasarala doesn’t have to admit to anything anymore. Marco takes full responsibility for the astroids.
Marco and the belters rise up
Yes this has all been Marco’s doing. We’ve all know that, but this is the moment he finally confirms it.
Before he tells the world, Naomi learns all about the plan on The Expanse Season 5, Episode 4. She hears why he’s doing this and that Filip has joined that cause.
Marco is done with letting the belters be exploited. Honestly, it was only a matter of time, patience, and access. Didn’t the American Revolutionary War teach Earth anything?
Naomi isn’t getting back to Holden and the others just yet, though. Filip locks her into a room and leaves. Maybe Naomi should have taken Holden along for the ride after all.
Of course, if Holden went with Naomi, he wouldn’t have been on Tycho with Fred.
Holden finds out there’s a traitor on Tycho on The Expanse Season 5, Episode 4
Throughout this episode, Holden and Fred spend the time trying to figure out who wanted Monica dead. Whoever it was still thought Monica was in the holding container, so they send a crew in there to wait out the ship. Once the ship turns up, the crew in the container can take over the ship.
Simple, right? Well, it would be if there wasn’t a traitor working for Marco.
As the ship turns up, it doesn’t get close to the shipping container. Holden realizes that it’s a trap and tells the guys in the shipping container to get out. They do get out just before the ship fires at the container.
While that happens, Sakai shoots Fred and then runs off. There were a few Belters working for Marco on Tycho and they all get out.
Holden needs to get to Monica, which is where Sakai and the other traitors are going. After a fight and a hole is blown in the side of Monica’s wall, almost causing them all to be pulled out into space, Holden and Monica survive with Sakai as their prisoner.
It’s time for answers.
Before we can do that, we need to mourn the loss of Fred. For a guy who started off as a man we weren’t sure we could trust, it’s hard knowing that we won’t get to hear his words of wisdom anymore.
RIP Col. Frederick Lucius Johnson.
Amos visits a prisoner
At the end of The Expanse Season 5, Episode 2, Amos had one request from Avasarala. He needed to see someone and then get off Earth for good.
That someone was a friend. She’s in prison, and it turns out she’s hooked up on blockers for her mods.
We don’t get a lot of time with the two of them, but it’s clear they’ve known each other for a while. Before they can say too much, the prison goes into lockdown. It’s clear an asteroid hits, but for Amos, he just sees a crack forming in the ceiling.
Will being underground in the prison be a good thing for him? The asteroid would have killed him outright if he was still on Earth. Maybe being trapped in a small room like that is a blessing in disguise.
The last storyline is Alex and Bobbie. We don’t get too much with the two of them, but they do go back onto good terms. Bobbie spends some time opening up to Alex about her pet rat as a kid, and Alex realizes that while he can’t be the shoulder to lean on that his son needs, someone like Bobbie can be.
