Small Axe: Education is one of 5 must-watch movies on Amazon this weekend

There are some excellent movies available through Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Channels this weekend. It’s time to narrow down the list to the five must-watch movies on Amazon.

Whether you want one based on real events, a heartfelt story, or an awesome musical comedy, there’s plenty to check out.

Small Axe: Education

The first movie on the list is the last of the Small Axe movies from Steve McQueen. Education follows the story of fictional characters in 1970s London. However, everything is based on real-life events.

It shows the way Black and white children are treated in school. More specifically, it shows the transferring of a disproportionate number of Black children from mainstream education at the time. They were deemed “educationally subnormal.”

Blackbird

If you want a heartfelt movie, Amazon Prime Video is the place to turn. Susan Sarandon stars as a terminally ill woman who has made the choice to end her life on her own terms. She wants to do that with her family around.

However, not everyone accepts her plan. They want more time with her while she can still offer it. Can they offer their mother and grandmother her dying wish?

The Other Boleyn Girl

Philippa Gregory fans will want to turn to STARZ for one of the must-watch movies on Amazon. The Other Boleyn Girl is now available to stream.

This movie stars Eric Bana, Natalie Portman, and Scarlet Johansson as Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, and Mary Boleyn. It’s a heavily fictionalized tale of events that sees Henry VIII deeply in love with Mary, but she is pushed aside by her more advantageous younger sister.

I Used to Go Here

We turn to HBO for the next movie on the list. There has been some great content dropping on HBO and HBO Max recently, but there’s one movie to check out this weekend. I Used to Go Here is available on Dec. 20 to watch.

The story follows an author who is asked to speak at her alma mater. She ends up mixed into the lives of the college students in this indie comedy.

The Blues Brothers

Lastly, it’s time to turn to SHOWTIME. The Blues Brothers is now available to stream, and it’s the perfect way to spend your Saturday night.

John Belushi plays Jake, a man just out of prison. He reunites with his brother, Elwood, played by Dan Aykroyd, and the two embark on a heartfelt mission. They want to save the orphange they grew up in from closure. They’re sure if they get their old band back together they can raise the money needed. Can they do it?
